I made sure to properly bed the pads to the new rotors and they were great for a few thousand miles. I learned the importance of bedding several years ago and will not make the same mistake again, thanks for the thought though.

Yep. Just replaced pads and rotors today and I read a message on the box of brake pads I've never seen before.
It gave explicit instructions on how to properly bed the pads.

    It said:
    5 aggressive stops from 40-5mph
5 moderate stops from 30-10 mph
and then drive as long and gently (without braking) as possible to cool them down due to the aggressive braking. They will be very hot. Please avoid sitting stopped with brakes on as the hot pads will burn into the hot rotor and cause deposits to transfer and cause warping.

I only do on-car-lathe for Tacomas and trucks. But new rotors are pretty much the only way to go at home in the garage. I would never trust a parts store to cut rotors.

The older 3rd gen 4runners had a waaaaaaaaay worse problem with pulsations.

had a notorious warped rotor issue on my 2000... bought it at 117k. Noticed warped rotors shortly after. "Okay! I'll just do pads and rotors. no big deal."
6 months later, my truck shook a lot during a hard stop. "Hmm...are my rotors warped? I guess I did the install wrong...oh look, warranty doesn't cover warping..."
    New pads and rotors again.
6 months later...truck shakes during a hard stop. "OKAY, WHAT GIVES?!"

I put either 2 or 3 sets of rotors on that truck in the 3.5years/30k I owned it. Raybestos professional grade.
I finally concluded it was due to the front wheel bearings being bad. As I had replaced just about everything else.
As with the 2nd gens, my 1st gen had 'silent offender' wheel bearings. No play, but a very careful ear could pick up very odd humming and vibrations at certain speeds when turning at a certain arc. Also, the tires kept cupping after 2-3 alignments.

I finally put the pieces of the puzzle together after I sold it, and I wish I had used a stethoscope on it years prior. I pegged it to be pitting in the races of the wheel bearing. Which is why it was hard to detect play in the bearing, but it made quite a unique sound when turning.

no. Raybestos Premium grade like from Rockauto. The tier 2 rotors. Not economy line.

And just remembered I tried Centric rotors and pads the last time.

sorry, I just can't believe it. On a Tacoma or any other vehicle.
Either they've been replaced/repacked or you just aren't noticing the hum.

Also, I thought the parts stores only did the unlimited lifetime warranty on their own brands? 'Wearever' and 'Duralast'
