    Afternoon everyone,

Just gave my Taco some tlc, had a little pulsing and shaking in the wheel while braking. Long story short like many have said here, the calliper pins had rusted in place fairly badly causing the pads to get hung up. With new pins and all the small parts replaced and lubed the Taco brakes perfectly once again :)

Now onto he question of this post, does anyone know of Calliper upgrades that have the pins protected or at least a better design. Foreseeing there may be a brake job soon too seeing the rusted state of the callipers....dang Canadian salted roads.

May have to incorporate a calliper pin lubrication job with every oil change to try to avoid the issue in the future. Plus side though Im just hitting 97,000km and still have +55% of the pads left, major plus to having the 5spd :D

    Cheers

Adding it to routine maintenance really isn't a bad idea. If you do a tire rotation with each oil change, greasing the pins would be fairly quick since the tire is already off.

Hear they make great brake pads with leading edge technology.

Haven't seen the slide pin design yet; I guess there's no rubber boot
I wonder if a high quality grease can help; there's many choices out there.
Am surprised a simple pin greasing fixed it, rather than removing the rotors to have them turned on a lathe (if there's even enough meat left in the metal to meet thickness spec)

The grease that Im trying to use now is a die-electric synthetic brake grease. Time will tell how well it works with regular maintenance check ins/pin lubing.

I didn’t just lube the pins, but as stated above I replaced them completely. I also took the dremel sander to the rust on the pad contact spots in the calliper. All that combine has resulted in free pad movement.
