@crashnburn80 What is your opinion on the 4Runner caliper (14WA) swap? Could a pair of junkyard or refurbished (i.e. cheaper than OEM new) 4Runner calipers with those slightly larger pistons (3mm, I believe) in addition to the larger 17” 4Runner stoptech rotor be a cost effective upgrade?

Good upgrade for sure, better than staying with the stock size components. At that point though I’d also evaluate the comparison to a BBK with 2 piece rotors that have significantly upgraded directionalized cooling with reduced weight, and better forged calipers over stock. StopTechs directionalized rotors cool 80% more than their sport rotors IIRC, which is a compelling stat. The 4Runner swap is a good upgrade, but if I’m investing in swapping calipers and going larger, personally I would go all in with the higher performance BBK with 2 piece directionalized rotors for peak performance. It will be more expensive though. An advantage of the 4Runner setup is parts are readily available should you need to replace something in a pinch vs custom order from StopTech or Wilwood.

It’s more about when I have my truck disassembled and they don’t work I don’t want to have to put it back together with bad pads or wait to have different ones shipped

I’m running the stop tech sport pads on two of my trucks and really like them. I would think they are very similar in stopping distances to the trd pads.

LOL, helps to tag the right Crash.

These would still be my recommendation for a mild upgrade with minimal negative side effects and stock like behavior. You can get better performance with a semi-metallic like StopTech Sports, but they will be noisier, you’ll likely have vibration, they will be dusty, they will be hard on the rotor ect. The intent of this was to have OEM like behavior with improved stopping performance.

@Texoma installed my StopTech rotors and TRD pads yesterday. I was on some badly warped rotors and pads work almost completely so not the best comparison but damn these new brakes work and feel fantastic!

Hey guys- my front brake calipers on my 2005 DC OR are shot.

Should I go OEM or is there a better option out there?

But I didn't get the cryo treated rotors. Just the slotted rotors.

Just ordered the StopTech Cryo’s from
TireRack. This will be paired with the TRD Pads and refurbished Toyota OEM Calipers.

Recently got around to installing my TRD pads and new OEM rotors. The TRD pads definitely bite more, and boy do they put out more dust. Worth it!

I tried to order the StopTech Cryo Rotors from
BuyBrakes today. They said three week ship time because it’s not available anywhere off the shelf because they do the special “Cryo “ treatment at the factory per order.

I called BS and ordered from TireRack.

They shipped within an hour of my order today.

I would be surprised if they weren’t drop shipped from Compton, CA. They Cyro treat them out here.
