As I was removing my four wheel camper. Brake malfunction light came on tranny locked up.
replaced stop fuse under hood.Fixed it. Next day went to sierras on way home while was driving brake malf. light came back on finally went out. Then I noticed brake light was on when head lights were on.Next day brake light only works when headlights are off.
So I figured the camper brake light may have shorted out to cause problems. Where is brakelight fuse. I repaced 10 amp stop fuse. The only other fuse in that box says stop but it looks like a relay.I am wondering if i have to replace that. And its not fuse under inst. panel that is tail light fuse. The brake malfunction lock up is disturbing and think its more dangerous having your tranny lock up if in traffic.Dissapointed in toyota

    Disappointed in Toyota?
Sounds like it’s not something they caused,,, more like user error.

^^This. There are things to be disappointed about with these trucks but don't blame them for something that's got nothing to do with them.

It’s the trend of the world. Blame everything but what is responsible.

It’s your lights in the camper. There’s a short somewhere.

Call Toyota corporate and complain. Record the conversation. We need a good chuckle.

how about you first prove that your brake controller and/or trailer lighting isn't the problem before we blame the truck?

My 95 Tacoma worked this way, the transmission is fine the gear shifter Interlock just isn't being powered

Pop off the tab and stick a screwdriver on the override

It's the wiring for the 3rd brake light... Was for me on my 95
