Brakes are really touchy on my 3rd gen... especially off road, sometimes goes into a skid without wanting to. Is this common for 3rd gens?

TBDH, praise the Toyota engineers for better braking performance. Takes 5-10 min for any 2nd gen to fade with minimal pressure. Pedal travels 50% before it bites at anything. Learning to deal with a "touchy" brake over time is a lot better than remembering to brake an extra 500ft back from the stop light because heat is your worst enemy in an already squishy system.

My 2015 Off Road had insanely Touchy Brakes, the 2017 Off Road feels much less Touchy.

When I got mine in 2013 the brakes were super sensitive. It was hard going from driving it to driving my DD. After the first time I opened the brake system up to swap in SS extended lines the brakes went to what I would describe as "normal". Wasn't super sensitive, but the same as any other car I've driven. I'd be curious what they do at the factory to get them to that level of sensitivity.

2nd and 3rd gen have the same brakes. Tire size and weight is a factor too. Sounds like you're due for some maintenance.

To my knowledge, 3rd gen runs a hydro master while 2nd is vaccum but maybe I'm wrong. Yes, same size dual front piston and rotor size. I did just upgrade, maybe 5 months ago. EBC USR rotors and 7000 green stuffs along with new shoes and cylinders in the rear and hardware while I resurfaced the drums. Did the break in, no hard braking for the first 300 miles. About a month out I started to feel it fade again, even after short and minimal use. It's off an on TBH, pedal feel is dull, soft, and gets squishy quick. As said before, after minimal use, requires 50% pedal travel before it even starts to bite. For being green stuffs and not yellow, I was expecting the same amount of dust... These greens spray dust everywhere. My front wheels look like they're a brushed copper if I don't clean them. They are really silver. I'm hoping changing out the master will help along with doing a 4runner caliper and rotor swap in the near future, and maybe discs in the rear of I can find a viable kit or find a shop to make a bracket.

Late 2nd and 3rd Gens share Brake Systems as ATRAC and Crawl Control is operated thru the Combo Brake Booster/MC, Off Road and Pro use this Style System. The SR, SR5, Sport, and Limited use Traditional Style Vacuum Boosters.

I just bought 2020tacoma with 20,000 miles. On initial braking, brakes grab and throw driver forward.
Just bled fluid, about 1 teaspoon from each caliper, without pedal pressure. Just slight drip.
Road rested. Seems a bit more normal now. We'll see after about 1,000 mor miles. Any comment?

I find the brakes not to be touchy at all I find that I have to apply more to the brakes to get it to stop . If u are skidding with slight brake input the brakes might be over adjusted .

the brakes on my '22 taco are not touchy one bit. they're adequate but i consider them soft and weak vs. other trucks and cars we have/had.

Brakes on my 2020 sr5 are normal like any other vehicles I've had. It's those trd models that the brakes are a bit weird. A buddy that had a 2019 trd had a time adjusting to the feel of the brakes in his truck. Those models have some weird quirks.
