hey guys, so I've been dealing with my brakes (rear I think) squeaking periodically. They do it when I'm at <5mph and stopping slowly. So in line at a stop sign or something along those lines.

Is it common for our trucks to have this issue or what's going on?

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I've actually noticed a slight squeek every once in awhile too while breaking at same speeds....

I also have a 2014 and have noticed the exact same thing. I only hear the squeak when coming to a full stop from a very slow speed. Brakes seem to work fine but maybe it is something to look into. I think there was another thread about this and someone mentioned a TSB for rear brake squeal on earlier models

typically due to either low quality pads and or a lot of build up on the rotor, take the wheel off and inspect the pads and rotors if you see lots glazing and it all looks overly shiny, get new pads.
Usually the rotors dont matter as much unless they are warped.

I have been using EBC green stuff 6000-7000 pads for years and they bed in really quick with a really nice pedal bite feel and never squeak

Yes it's normal BUT annoying. It could also be a sign of new pads needed.

I have the same problem. I believe there is a TSB for the issue. Squeaks when braking at slow speeds. I know it is not due to worn pads...done it since the truck was almost new.

It's good to hear everyone else is having the issue so it's just not me, but it's supper annoying. If it's common than I wont bring it in again... Cause Toyota will just say no problem found and move me on my way

Truck had 9k miles so definitely not the pads being worn, and I just got all the brakes cleaned by Toyota.

Had there been a fix except better brake pads?

You could scan through the thread I hyperlinked. It has the TSB that covered some models/years. Could take that in with you and see if the dealer would do it.

I've never had this issue although my Tacoma is a 2012 but i'd have to say new brake pads are needed.

If the TSB doesn't fix it then I'll look into getting them replaced

I had the same problem on my '13 that I bought new. It drove me crazy, then eventually it went away on its own. I want to say somewhere around the 15K mile mark.

My '14 does it too, drives me nuts. Started around 6,000 miles and I'm at 8k and some change now. Figured I'll bring it up when I take it in for the 10k service.

    Yes sir
Just going to repeat what's been said since it's the most likely the problem; change your brakes. The factory brakes aren't as good of quality compared to an aftermarket set of brakes. Just like anything else on our trucks, aftermarket is generally better quality. Toyota isn't going to use the best quality parts from head to toe on a truck that's worth 30k since their profit margin lowers with every added expense.

I'd also stay away from the dealer unless it's free maintenance, do it yourself or go to a small business shop for whatever needs to be done. Just my opinion though :D
