I know there's a lot of folks that have rough downshifts and clunks (I have both), but even when I put the truck in neutral coming to a stop, I occasionally get a much stronger response from the brakes right before I come to a stop without adding any additional pressure to the brake pedal. Any ideas? I have a 17 TRD OR 4x4.

I know you will not like to hear this but it is normal, the Off Road has a weird electro/hydraulic brake booster and it just takes time to get used to it, the first time I drove mine I almost put myself thru the windshield.

all drum brakes do this, and so do most soft pads, at least all the ones I've driven, and the brake booster amplifies the effect. there is a perfect solution... brake modulation - with your foot! feel the grab come and gradually release the pedal. it's how to drive her!

You also could be feeling the transmission downshifting with the torque converter locked up.. it's annoying but you learn to compensate

Keep driving. Break in period is ~1000 miles for the tranny to learn your habbits. Same issues happened to me. 1k on the dot, problems magically gone. Shifting issues disappeared entirely.
