Then it looks like they have the snap ring on the highest setting?

It's hard to tell exactly which snap ring groove is utilized, because the collar's covering it. It appears to be towards the top yes. Those might be the older version 6112's.

The older version had 5 or 6 clip settings. The newer versions have 11 I think.

Just got a call from Beaver Toyota.

He told me they had done everything, and couldn't find a problem or a fix for the soft pedal. Then another dude came over and asked if they had checked the wheel bearings. Come to find out my right front wheel bearing was shot. He said it might be ready for pickup today around 5, or could be tomorrow.

I did a Google search, and sure enough a bad wheel bearing can cause the problems I've been having.

Also did a search on what a dealership would charge for a bearing replacement.

"A Toyota dealership may charge between $884 and $996 to replace a wheel bearing on a 2018 Toyota Tacoma. :angrygirl:"

With my 20 year 200K mile drivetrain warranty and a 10% off a brake fluid change, my out of pocket will be $279.52, I have to pay $100 deductible on the wheel bearing.

I've replaced a couple wheel bearings over the years...66 Mustang, and a 87 Z28. Cost a few dollars for the bearing, and took longer to remove the wheel than to replace the bearing. Shit must be different these days?

It was free in 2018 when you bought any new car or truck from them. The 2025's have a free lifetime warranty at Beaver.

Dealer warranty? One with lots of fine print and a list of requirements that all services have to be done by them or the warranty is voided?

Because neither is an actual Toyota warranty.

It's a dealer roll of the dice. They make lots on service work (unneeded and/or overpriced) with the knowledge that most folks will sell the vehicle before there is a 'real' problem that's on them to fix.

Similar to CPOs. Take a trade on a nice model, modest/low miles. Detail it, maybe a set of tires, change the oil, perform rudimentary inspections and cross your fingers you never see it again. A winner for the dealer at a high enough percentage that they wash rinse repeat.

I didnt read everyones response, but here is mine

When they did your lift, they removed the front brake calipers. While doing that, they had to compress the pistons back in to get the calipers back on. After doing so, they did not pump the brakes to push the pistons back out again so they were in contact with the rotors.

When I worked at the VW dealer I saw many cars go right through the garage doors because techs didnt pump the brakes after replacing pads and rotors.

    Simple fix, pump the brakes.

This is what they gave me when I bought the truck. I asked about if something happened on a road trip, and they said as long as it was at a Toyota dealership, and I called them before the work was done...it would be covered.

All that matters to me is the invoice I got today for a new wheel bearing and a brake fluid flush was $916. I paid $150 for the brake flush and $100 for the wheel bearing instal. Plus they gave me a new car to drive home. They called yesterday at 4:30 and said my truck was ready, but I had out of town friends here, and asked if it would be okay to pick it up today. No problems.

It was a bad wheel bearing. Picked it up from the dealership a little bit ago. Brakes are perfect now.

A bad bearing can cause the brake to be spongy, but not all of a sudden. Guess when they removed the CV bolt that clamps the bearing it gave it that extra kick it needed.

It's a surprise to me. I was all over the shop over it. That assured me it wasn't anything they'd done.

Just glad it's fixed. Brakes are a good thing!

Better to have it go like that than the progressive going bad over the span of 6 months so you just dont notice the new grinding sound the truck makes.
