The Sport has the hood scoop which strengthens and adds rigidity to the hood. Hood vibration has not been an issue with the scooped hoods to my knowledge.

Good to know, I still need to pop the hood when I get a chance just for piece of mind.

So I was going to let the dealer do it. They kept saying oh we don’t have a loaner in so I did it myself and it’s working great. Btw the gray GE silicone from Lowe’s matches the cement color pretty well.

Just took my 2019 OR with 1500 miles in for this issue and they said they were waiting for approval to replace the hood. I did ask if it was possible to swap it out for a Sport hood but they weren't sure about it due to this being a warranty issue.

Dealer added some type black silicone/rtv to the hood. Reduced the vibrations drastically.

Thought to post to keep this thread going. My new 2020 SR is having the exact hood issues; noticed on day two, December 23, 2019. The truck now has 1,900 miles. Section of the hood, drivers side, up near the driver. Wobbles at 55mph, waves like water at higher speeds. Decisions; I dislike dealerships...

I actually just dropped mine off yesterday for this repair. They told me it should take about 3 days at the body shop so not 100% sure if they are stripping paint and applying new adhesive. I will update once I pick my truck back up. 2018 OR baja truck.

I would just take it to the dealer let them fix it or replace it .Why do it yourself and void your warranty .something goes wrong your out a hood .

I agree. Working at a dealership I've learned that documentation is key for EVERYTHING.

My new 2020 has the same issue. Highway speeds causes the hood skin to flex dramatically. It's quite annoying.
Upon examination, there are only (4) points of "glue" between the support framework and outer skin. And three of those has torn through. I don't believe that the glue points are actually suppose to glue the pieces together, but only to act as a deterrent to metal on metal vibration. The substance they use as a glue is a foam of some sort. As an actual glue, I don't see how it would be successful.
I also used a 100% silicone (crystal clear) to buffer the outer hood vibes. I'm not caring if it actually "bonds". I just want it to support the metal. So far so good. My only downfall was that I didn't apply it in enough locations. I'll have to revisit the caulk gun again.

Do you have a link or part number for this 3M material and gun? Price isn't an issue for me. I just don't want the dealer messing up my truck. I've had hood vibes since 1 mile off the lot back in 2019, just didn't care enough to bring it in or fix it.

This is what I used back in 2018 for my 2016:
3M NVH Dampening Material, 04274, 200 mL Cartridge

    3M 8193 Mixing Nozzle, 1 Pack

    COX M200LVMR
    Applicator 100 ml. x 100 ml

I bought off Amazon but search around.

Could anyone confirm what the exact matching product the manufacturer uses? The ideal fix for me would be to do it myself, carefully and sparingly only adding a little material to the factory locations using the OEM material and if it failed, I could take it to the dealer and they'd still be on the hook for the repair. I'd like to avoid taking it to them first for the same reason as others.

The material I posted about was what the dealer tech and my research online confirmed.

I finally fixed this on my ‘21 TRD OR today. My hood vibrated from day 1 (I’ve had the truck for about 14 months now) and almost every factory foam connection point was broken by the time I got around to it today. I also used the gray GE silicone (for metal) from Lowes, and I agree it matches my cement color nicely.

It was very easy to do, the whole process took maybe 10-15 min. Way easier than wasting a half a day waiting for the dealer to probably not even do it nearly as good as I did it. I just pushed up lightly on the hood with one hand (when necessary), and I stuck the tip of the silicone in there and pumped the caulking gun with the other. I used it very liberally and then I pushed up on each glob a few times from the bottom to make sure it made good contact and got smooshed in there well. Have a roll of paper towels handy and put an old towel down or something over the engine because it gets pretty messy. A step stool helps too for the area of the hood that closest to the windshield. I’ll give it the rest of the day to cure since I have no plans of leaving the house today anyway, but it says it’s waterproof in 30 min on the tube, so it’s probably already fine to drive.

I’ll report back if it this GE stuff doesn’t do the trick, but I don’t see it not working well (and it’s a fraction of the cost of the other 3M adhesives that others are recommending - especially with the special gun you need to buy for that stuff!). I can’t believe the original factory stuff is such shitty foam that gets dried out and breaks so easily. Silicone will hold up 100xs better. Sometimes I wonder what these automaker engineers are thinking. This is exactly what I used…
