Usually if a vibration at 55 mph or at 70, its tire related. At 25 mph, that sound more serious like something else.

My truck vibrates the worst when traveling around under power and maintaining a constant 55-57 mph it actually builds like a resonance frequency to the point of numbing my hands. Throw it in neutral down a hill and it's smooth as silk all the way.

Boy do I have a long story about my experience with the service department and Toyota. I’m gonna cut to the quick. The TSB for this issue covers 2016 through 2021. The 2022 fix is covered under warranty because it’s not covered under the TSB. The Rep told me the 2022 will probably be added to the TSB soon. On my truck, after getting the regional Toyota Rep involved, they installed new leaf springs with attached tapered spacers to angle the pinion flange upward to reduce the driveshaft angle (like what some lift kits include). Before ordering the springs w/shims, they used an angle finder from Home Depot to determine that my driveshaft angle was at the limit of specifications. The top tech told me the Toyota dealer the next town over had a large supply of these replacement springs w/shims, but they wouldn’t sell a set to my dealership. Mine were ordered next day delivery from the Toyota regional supply. The truck vibrates a lot less now but the vibe/shudder is still slightly there. It used to be the worst at 25 mph, but was felt from 12-29 mph. Now it has moved to slight at 20 mph and does it very slightly at 42 mph. It’s smooth as silk everywhere else. I’ve decided to just accept it not being completely gone, because I like the truck otherwise and I’ve been driving ONLY Toyota trucks since 1986. I recently test drove other trucks, but it’s still Toyota for me. I also drove 7 new Tacomas over the past week from all over the state, and every single one had the same issue. All of the Toyota service advisors I talked to at the different dealerships used the same BS lines. “It’s normal”, “It’s a truck!”, “It’s operating as intended”, “It’s just a characteristic of these trucks”, “There’s no TSB for it” (2022). This is obviously a directive from Toyota to get you to just accept it, and that will save them tons of money. If you keep pushing, and don’t give up, they’ll take care of it. Get your service Dept to call the Toyota Rep and hopefully they’ll at least do what they did for me.
EDIT: While diagnosing, they removed the rear driveshaft and I drove it in 4WD High with the service advisor. ALL of the vibes disappeared!

The shims to change the angle are understandable just, don't understand the need for new leaf springs ? Heck, give me source for the shims and I'll experiment ! That said, I just can not image why Toyota has not implemented production changes in 7 model years.

Maybe the new spring's change the ride height slightly affecting the pinion angle in a more positive way if the truck is loaded.

How does he not get that lifting the rear 1.5-2 inches will change angles

Forgive me, if I am not seeing that stiffer springs which are attached solid to the rear axle may lift the bed higher and change the angle ? How would the rear end driveshaft yoke still be the same height from the ground and change the angle to the transmission ? The engine and transmission are connected to the frame with no changes ?

This is exactly what happened with my 2020. The vibes are significantly reduced, and I've learned to accept what is still left. My dealer did give me a little grief back when they did the work, but they still did it after measuing the angles.

Thanks for sharing. My truck was pretty bad when new because it had a combo of 3 things; this driveline thing, bad rear drums and my new Wildpeaks were defective and not perfectly balanced. The damn truck drove me nuts. Almost sold it a few times. Not to mention the hood skin vibrated (I since fixed it) and overhead console makes noise with the vibrations. After fixing the drums and a second set of new tires, it's much much better. I can feel the driveline vibes more times than others when driving alone. When I have my wife and son with me and just 50 lbs of stuff in the bed, the vibes are pretty much gone. More people inside the truck seem to help mine, even more than when I'm solo and have gear in the bed.

I too, would like to test out a set of 1 degree shims. I've been trying to find the OEM part number but no luck. Might need to visit the parts counter or just get an aftermarket set from BellTech or something. I tested the vibes with my dirtbike mounted on a hitch tray one but that was before the new tires. Need to test that again. I really wonder if the weight of a camper shell would get rid of all of this.

At 25 mph the tires aren't spinning fast enough to cause balance issues. However, the driveshaft spins 4 times as fast. Get under the truck and check all the balance weights on the driveshaft are there.

Toyota is waiting to fix it in 2024, when the rear axle will be coil sprung 5-link :p

Jokes aside, I can imagine this problem being cumbersome to solve for Toyota. They wait for problems to bubble up past a certain percentage in warranty claims (1%, 3%), then the engineers try to recreate it in their test vehicle fleet. If those particular trucks in their possession exhibit this problem, great, otherwise the investigation can drag on.

Yep, imo, its a crap shoot. if your lucky you'll get a build that doesn't have any vibration.

I think toyota already knows what the issue is. They had similar issues in the past, but different until a class action suit was brought against them. They figure unless its a real problem causing reliability issues, they are not going to do much.
On another note, whats the story for all these rear differentials that were howling?

Yep. Thankfully mine is very minor an some added weight makes it pretty much disappear. Maybe a shim will get it. I had a 2018 that didn't vibrate at all but the tranny shifted about 10x more than it should and not all that smoothly. My 2022's tranny shifts like butter. Night and day different.

That's funny. They probably are waiting for the next gen to make this go away.

Per my poll and the fact that so many people on here who have this were able to just grab almost any truck on the lot and they'd vibe 30-10 MPH, I'd say 40%+ have it. Doesn't it seem like there was less of these posts from 2016 until more recently like 2020? More common on the newer trucks maybe?
