Brand New Carrier Bearing

I just replaced the factory carrier bearing on my Toyota. I think that we put it on backwards but my brother in law seems to think it doesn't matter how they sit. The factory bearing had two arrows on the bearing but the new one doesn't. He didn't pay attention to how the old one was on before taking it off. We put the new bearing on but there is a squeaking noise when driving. We have tried to set the bearing as straight as possible but nothing is working. Can anyone confirm these carrier bearings have to be put on a certain way? Inside the housing there are rubber flaps that point downward. Not sure if you are to use those as reference guide to how they go.

 

Any help would be great.

 

Is it just the squeek that is bothering you? Is the drive shaft flopping around or what? What prompted the change in the carrier bearing to begin with?

It could need some lube, but from what I recall, they shouldn't need anything like that, so I'm wondering if your squeek is coming from somewhere else?

 

I don't know the answer to this. When I replaced mine, I used an OEM part purchased off of Amazon. It had the same arrow set up so I put it on the same way. While the bearings appear to work the same either way, I am going to ASSume the arrows are there for a reason.

 

The driveshaft is solid. There is no flop or vibrations at all. After driving it for about 50 miles the squeaking has almost stopped.
The reason I changed it was due to way to much movement in the driveshaft with the old one. You could grab the driveshaft on both ends of the bearing and move it up and down and side to side about 1-2". I initially thought it was the problem I've been having for a couple months but that turned out to be a rear bearing.
Since the squeaking has almost stopped I believe I am going to leave it as is for now. Unless more noise comes from it on down the road.
