Purchased my 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road six days ago from a local dealer, the vehicle came from another dealer - which got it from another dealer.

Total the vehicle had 219 miles when I purchased it.

I brought it home, it was a bit overcast and the next day I walked outside and looked down the side and noticed the paint looks like it doesn't match.

I spoke to a few friends who said metallic is weird depending on the light, but I still don't feel like it should be this 'weird' if thats the case. I have seen several threads (a bit older) in regard to MGM and issues as well, so I am unsure if its a QA issue or if mine is just wonky looking for whatever reason.

I reached out to the first dealer that had the vehicle, no history of repairs. Second dealer, no history of repairs. The dealer I purchased it from had no history either.

I took the vehicle to the dealer today that I purchased it from, the salesperson (who's actually pretty damn cool) came out and noticed it also. We took a look at another they had on the lot and you can see there is a difference, however it isn't as substantial as mine seems.

It's mainly noticeable on the passenger side, however the drivers side looks 'different' also in certain light.

Well sadly if any damage happened at any of the Dealerships it would never get reported. Passenger side door does look different to me, but it's hard to actually spot anything off a pic on the internet.

I think I’ve seen someone mention this before. Did you try the search function?

It's exactly how it looks.. In person, depending on the angle.

In another thread I read this as not uncommon. It's hardly noticeable if at all. In fact, I can't even see it IMHO. But if it's new from the dealer, ask them, not much we can do for you here.

You're right, not much you can do which wasn't the point of the thread - however would be interesting to see whether there are more out there.

It's definitely noticeable which is making me wonder whether mine is as common as the two others I've seen.

Posted one more photo - it is at the bottom.

I have fiberglass bedsides and fenders. Mine are better color matched than that door. It’s way lighter.

I can see a metallic being different at different angles, but that door is lighter at every angle.

You mean it looks like the front and rear doors don't match?

Not the point of the thread, but someone already pointed out there's already a thread on this. :notsure:

Looks like you're wasting your time replying, it's your choice whether to reply - it's my choice whether to reply as well.

    Each case is different.

    Have fun talking to yourself.

Wasting your time here when you can go ask the person who sold you the truck.

That's what it appears, the bed and passenger rear door match however the front door and fender look a different shade.

I'm not too familiar with metallic paint, but I'm assuming this shouldn't be?

I have seen in another thread someone with a similar issue, however when I replied to that thread - it seemed dead and there didn't appear to be a resolution as to how that was handled. Reaching out to others to see how they went about this if this has occurred in the past as well.

Have you given the dealer you purchased the truck from the opportunity to address the issue?

The salesperson did view the vehicle today and said he does see what I'm talking about, we did take a look at two other MGM Tacoma he had on the lot and one other looked similar but not as 'drastic' as mine looks.

It's a common issue with MGM specifically. There have been many complaints about it.

Perhaps the panels are sprayed in the factory at different angles and the metallic settles differently, or the parts are sprayed at different times in different areas of the factory with different batches of paint.

Even factory paint of the same code will be minutely different from batch to batch. That's why even a new vehicle that is damaged has to be colour matched even with new paint of the same factory code.

Thank you - do you know if these complaints were logged anywhere or followed up on possibly by Toyota to be addressed?

I know not all vehicles are perfect, even new ones - but 37k for some funky ass paint wasn't expected.

Yeah that would annoy me too. You could likely get toyota to cover a respray of the offending panel at the local body shop, I personally would rather keep the factory flawed paint. Once it ages a bit I think it will "blend" with UV damage and wear.

If you demanded a new truck, it very well might have the same issue.

Go get that sexy bitch muddy and pinstriped!

You can log it with your service dept and have them open up a case with Toyota. This issue has been around a since the color came out on the 2nd gens. It’s not a rampant problem but it is a known one.
I had it slightly on my MGM and I just decided to move on. There was no use having a body shop try to match it which is basically all the dealership is going to do if Toyota green lights the fix.
