Dealer salesman: It's normal. That's the way these trucks are built.
But if you don't like it, don't worry. I heard that there'll be an update soon.

When there's a fire under the hood the cable and hood release parts melt and makes the hood hard AF to open.
It would be great if it was designed like a fuseable link that once it melted it releases the hood.

They weren't able to duplicate the problem. There is no issue per Toyota.

The fuseable link automatically opening the hood is a bad idea. With the hood down you're limiting how much oxygen can reach the fire. An oxygen starved fire is easier to put out then one with full access to oxygen.

If you ever see a fire under the hood and open it, the fire will flash outward as it reaches for oxygen and create some nasty burns all over your body. Best thing to do is put a fire extinguisher in the grille and fire in a back and forth motion moving the nozzle from the passenger side to the driver side. Once you've confirmed the fires out, then cautiously open the hood.

Only mistake I saw by the fire fighters was no face shields or SCBAs on.

As for what caused that, I have no idea.

The truck was towed to the dealership afterward but the Service manager told the customer they couldn't replicate the problem.

Wow, that Tacoma burn test was amazing. I thought that plastic front bumper would have melted.

That's why you don't ghetto wire some aftermarket HID lights.

    ___

Oh I love how that "volunteer" firefighter without the gloves comes with the hood prop to save the day. Why was that other guy trying to latch the hood after the front was sawed open. :sawzall:

I heard that the dealer had screwed the license plate into the bumper, and since the tranny cooler was low on fluid, the LED fogs caused the derp to catch fire when the pop and lock was miswired and shorted out the entune due to the rain.

Word is that the fire voided the warranty.
