    Hey guys,
I am flying into Tennessee soon after coming back from the deployment I'm on. From there, I am loading up my dog, my best friend, and I and we are driving across country to San Diego. I bought my brand new 2017 TRD Off-road and I am very stoked to get behind the wheel of it.

With that said, I have noticed a lot of forums on here about fluids or oils being low.
Is there a forum that you guys can direct me to for a checklist of things that I should look for? I feel like the dealership that I'm working with is going to make sure everything is good. But, I'd like to make sure.

    Thanks Guys!!

Thanks for your service. I am in the same situation. Currently have 49 days left on my tour before heading back across the pond. I put a deposit down on a TRD Pro back in December and my delivery date is set for late February, early March. After reading the forums, it would be nice to have a checklist (i.e. check transmission fluid, grease joints) for the dealership to go over before pulling off the lot.

Hey thank you all for your service!!! At a minimum I would make sure they check the transmission fluid and the differential fluid. They seem to have been problem areas in the past...........

    Have a good trip!

Seems most of the early issues w/ fluids on the 16s and early 17s are getting addressed, but still worth checking:

CKP Sensor - the best way I could say to confirm this is working properly is by idle speed based on my experience. Once the truck is fully warmed up, you should see idle speed settle to 550-600 rpms. Faulty CKP sensors will cause it to idle higher and rougher in most scenarios. Unlikely this would be an issue that would surface that early, but worth mentioning as it can wreak havoc on your driving experience!

Grease u-joints - if an OR you'll only have zerks in the front of the driveshaft but it does make a difference once they are lubed.

Tighten u-bolts on the leafs - to I think 58lb

Check torque on the lugs - they tend to impact drive these and over tighten which has led to some warped drums (such as in my truck's)

Transmission fluid - have them check manually if they will before you take delivery. even if they say they did it, I'd suggest you get a Carista OBD2 to hook up to your phone and monitor the trans temp as this would be the best indicator if you have low / hot fluid.

MAF sensor - may want to hit this with some CRC cleaner once you get it. they have been known to ship w/ some assembly oil on the sensor which can give some inaccurate readings. many comment that their truck breathes better even on a brand new truck once cleaned FWIW

Those are the main ones that come to mind from my personal experience.

Thank you ALL for your service to our country. It's because of you that we have the freedom to do what we do - and for that I'm grateful!

From one vet to all those we serve and protect. Thank you!
And don’t forget to check turn signal fluid.
Best wishes on your new truck and upcoming trip.

I've done that trip a few times! How long you going to allot (drive straight through or scenic stops along the way)?

I would honestly say don't worry about it and just drive it. It's brand new and there is a warranty for quite a few miles to cover all of it.

All the things they should check are on the pre purchase checklist the dealer is supposed to fill out after taking delivery. So "technically" they are telling you they already did it and it's good to go. If you ask them to verify this or that, you have to wonder if they will actually do it anyways if they didn't do it already.

A truck never feels like your own until that first road trip. You got some beautiful and fun stops along the way. Take your time and have fun.

Not sure if the truck is brand new or not? If brand new - this is recommended form the oweners manual https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM04013U/pdf/OM04013U.pdf

■Breaking in your new Toyota To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended: ●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops. ●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer. ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km): • Do not drive at extremely high speeds. • Avoid sudden acceleration. • Do not drive continuously in low gears. • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

Overall, road trips are the best!! Meet cools folks, eat crappy food at interesting places, good beer, good sites, and have a great time
