It’s much louder in person. If you were walking on the sidewalk as I drove by, you’d easily hear it. The sound doesn’t entirely disappear at operating temperature. It’s just less loud, but still there. I’m not worried about the reliability of the truck but I would like to figure this out because it’s simply annoying. My buddy bought the exact same spec truck two months ago and doesn’t have this noise. Same mileage.

In that case just take it to the dealer. Diagnosing noises over the internet is usually a crapshoot.

I realize this engine noise on the 3rd gen tacoma is an old conversation. Is it just me or does it drive anyone else nuts ? Starting to regret trading 4.0 in on this 2022 off road !

I went through hell with dealers and Toyota with my 2009 4cyl, making noise and vibrating, they were playing ball at 1st, did the sound deadening tsb, rear diff tsb, some other tsb, changed the clutch and transmission, then simply gave up having no idea what it was, even though they admitted the noise was clearly there. Toyota sent me a letter saying there was nothing wrong with my vehicle and it was operating as designed. I test drove several 2018 TRD off roads before finally finding one that didn't vibrate. Good luck OP.

Back from the dealer feeling like an idiot. The noise was the exhaust hangar rubber isolator running against the cat theft shield. in my own ignorance I was sure that it wasn’t it because I’d been under the truck at least 1/2 dozen times checking and rechecking ALL things. Turns out to the the one thing I couldn’t see.

I’m ok with feeling like an idiot once in a while if the problem gets solved! Now you can enjoy the truck :)

Glad to hear your problem was resolved. Was your noise similar to the one in the video I posted though? I find it hard to believe that the exhaust can produce a sound like that.

Yours doesn’t sound the same as mine. The noise and vibration I was feeling was from a rubber exhaust insulator near the rear cat rubbing against the cat shield theft deterrent. Since taking the cat shield off the noise is gone, will have to modify it a bit so they’re not rubbing against one another again.

Mine does it too. My best description is blowing over a beer bottle sound.

I’m assuming you also have the 2.7L? How long have you had the noise? How many miles on your truck? Has it gotten worse or better with time? When do you hear it the most? Really looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

You said in an earlier comment that my noise was the same as yours though…anyway, it doesn’t matter. Please enjoy your truck. I’m jealous that you were able to resolve your issue.

I have a 2022 with the 3.5L. Seems to be more noticeable in colder weather. Hasn't really changed since new.

TSB for the rear dampener bushings between the cab and the frame does not work I got it done no difference which I thought it was coming from the rear and mine it's random but usually between 40 and 50 mph I've also got a vibration that's in and out or constant for all I know depending on speed but also I can control the whining sound when get up to speed to about 40 or 50 and flutter the gas when it starts to happen you will hear it though exactly with the acceleration and when you let off it rolls down so it's something Driveline why I'm starting to realize that the sound isn't coming from the rear it's coming from either directly under me or a little bit in front of me so I'm wondering if something would transmission or maybe CV axle and passenger side since driver has a bushing I've also considered and I still believe have a U-joint that's going out but it's not showing any signs of where that I can tell but the vibration a lot of results in the drive shaft issue but mine was happening ever since about I got it at 5,000 miles and I'm at 16,000 now almost 17 it seems to progressively change my dealer has no clue they just say it's normal if that's normal I would have never bought the truck I've never experienced any vehicle to do that except for a Dodge Durango it's rear end was going out and it whined like this sound but it is obviously from the rear but much higher pitch so that's the only thing I can relate it to also mine was made in Mexico and a red post where the rear diff and Transmissions were found to be low on fluids straight from the factory in the day I got my first maintenance service and they told me that Sound was normal I knew they lied and they're supposed to check all the fluids so I went ahead and checked on my fluids my rear diff was one quart and a little bit more exactly low I went to the transmission temperature check procedure check my transmission got out less than what I was supposed to overfilled it with so that tells me it was low and the front diff was low also by almost 10 fluid ounces made no difference but I can tell maybe a little smoother for a while but the shaking random vibration was like some kind of catch up in the whirling sound that correlated with the acceleration the acceleration still there maybe they're tied together

Also dealership told me first that it was just aggressive tire tread making the whirling sound I rebalance my tires and had them rotated actually I had him balance but three different places just to see if it was that if they were just doing anything correctly ended up getting different tires with less aggressive tread still get the same thing except the whirling did change slightly by pitch as if the weight had to do something with it maybe but it still has the constant world in the rotation the vibration is almost as if it's with the top of obviously moving component but that's a million and one things tires are balanced Drive it's a big mystery but it's very aggravating sometimes it feels like it's at the vehicles missing or is jolting and something's trying to catch up and grip but it's not as slippage and a transmission that I can tell that's another reason why I think maybe possible universal joint also found a video where a carrier bearing for the drive shaft made a similar sound but that thing was pretty wore out and it's not wore out unless it's a sign that it is don't have a lift to cause any vibrations standard from Factory

I think I'm having this same sound, basically sounds like the engine is turning crazy RPM but at a quieter volume than if it really was around 55-65 mph sound stays pretty constant even if it down shifts? almost sounds like u joint or diff whine. 33k miles, 2wd SR on stock nittos.
