Looking for advice. I had to take my truck in for body work. My truck was there for two weeks. They did some front body work. On my way home my low oil pressure light came on. I know it was dumb but I drove it about 10 miles home. Oil control valve sensor was faulty causing the low oil pressure. I figured I would change the oil even though it wasn’t due and found what looks like brass shavings. I’ve checked the cams and timing chain area and all looks brand new.
    My 2006 Tacoma 4.0 does have 290k miles…..
    Any thoughts would be helpful
    Thanks!

Its most likely copper shavings from rod or main bearings. Submit an oil sample for analysis to confirm. I dont know how easy it is to replace bearings from below the engine, without removing it. Something you will have to inquire and get estimates. I hope you dont sell it without revealing the shavings to the buyer.

I wouldn’t do that to someone. I’d like to try and fix it. I did an oil sample with blackstone but since I only had 500 miles they didnt find anything. I was scared to drive much more so I started tearing it down. My mechanic skills are basic but I have done all my own work thus far. I bought this truck brand new and would like to not have another truck payment. Anyone know if replacing bearings from the oil pan is possibe?

The Oil Control Valve for the Camshafts was bad?
Just 1 of them or both?

I can’t see how that caused low oil pressure, but I haven’t been that far in to one of these engine to know for sure? Hope I never have to either.

Just one on bank 1. And I actually just cleaned it and put back. It cleared the code and worked fine. Maybe it was just coincidence the OCV went bad at the same time? Not sure

That OCV code will set if the pcm commands it to open and it doesn't see a change in camshaft timing (advanced/retarded). A low oil level is a common cause. But low oil pressure can do it too.

Is/was the level low on the dipstick?

Red oil can indicator came on. Oil is full and it doesn’t use any oil.

How much shavings are we talking? Did you open the oil filter to check there? Sounds like it's time to hook up a real oil pressure gauge, the light is cute but not that helpful.
