Joined a gym today. The owner is a guy I used to train muay thai/strength training with at another gym about 12 years ago and I'm really excited to get back into it. I've only taken a few grappling classes here and there, and I'm ready to start learning. And also ready to get smashed for a couple of years.

give yourself a year before you make any major decisions. i obviously cant speak on behalf of age but i can speak on how hard the first year is. getting smashed, having doubts, not progressing, second guessing. all that BS. its all apart of the process. i believe youll feel much different after a year. just my 2 cents. stick around a bit. grind it out. enjoy the m u r d e r...

I just started this adventure 6 months ago, I’m 52, I have physical limitations due damage I did when I was unbreakable in my late 20s - 40s,

I park in the Wheelin Jimmy spaces n walk with a cane mostly

I have excellent training partners in our BJJ classes, some roll harder than others but for the most part even when I’m rolling with one of the higher belts they understand I’m trying to sort out the flow of a move they will work with me to straighten it out, explain why something wasn’t workin and how to fix it

Our Professors both believe you will make yourself better if you help make your training partners better

Sometimes the hardest part is being comfortable in an uncomfortable situation

Just try to enjoy the ride.
The first 6 months is purely survival.

That’s the way she goes haha.
The ups and downs are crazy.
I’ll go months feeling like everyone else if getting better and I’m staying the same. Then I’ll hit a streak where I’m pulling clean technique. Smooth transitions. Having success with new moves. And then bam. Dog shit again. Everyone experiences the ebb and flow.

Love half guard. Especially sequences starting in deep half. Had a lot of fun with it this year

Half guard is kicking my ass. From top or from the bottom.

There's a combination of balance and hip-motion that I need to figure out; but that's not the most helpful thing to say about a jits problem.

I miss being a white belt. Pulling off low percentage wrestling shit because they had no idea what to expect was always a blast while it lasted lol. Hold onto that white belt as long as they let you

I have no interest in competing, I started a bit late fer that. This was my first time prepping for a blue belt test and I pulled the psoas muscle a couple weeks out. I’ve been training with the team on limited intensity, slow and flow. I also knew there were moves that I was not going to be able to test on physically. My professors said ok you’re gonna observe and when we get to a move you can do without hurtin yerself we’ll see what you got.

Got to go to team day, we had close to 100 people from four different G13 Jiu-jistu gyms. We divided into four groups and the black belts came around to each group to show us move combinations. I got to work with one of my teammates that’s a brown belt who is also on limited intensity. One of my favorites was working from an X guard into a sweep that finishes with a heal lock.
