1k break in oil change, yay or nay? Wife's 2022 Rav 4 hybrid is nearing its 1st thousand miles.

Unless the owners manual recommends an oil change its not necessary. However if it makes you feel better do it.

I'd bet my pension that the factory fill isn't any kind of special "break in" oil. HOWEVER, if you are an oil analysis nerd, the first sample from the factory fill always has sky high silicon numbers. High 20's to low 30's is common. I do an early change for that reason. Makes me feel better.....no idea if the truck cares.

The manufacturer has to warranty that engine. If they're not worried, I wouldn't worry

It's a Toyota, not a crate engine big block.

I can tell you the hybrid 2.5 is stout and even 30,000 mile oil changes won't kill it.

Don't waste money, just do more frequent oil changes every 5-6k rather than 10k ideally.

But what brand of oil? That’s the real question. Choose the right brand and your engine will go 700k with almost no maintenance at all. Pick the wrong one and well…

I normally change the first interval at 3000 miles, the second at 10,000 miles. I then go every 10,000 miles after that or 1 year. This is with NORMAL driving habits which I am sure will be the case with that vehicle. If you drive on extremely dusty roads frequently then adjust accordingly. I use Mobil1

Oh yeah here we go, sure we'll see a consensus in this thread!

This question comes up so much. The way I see it, manual says no need. Plenty of high mileage toyotas running around, is it needed? Probably not. But it's about 35 bucks and takes 20 minutes to DIY. So, for that reason, meh F it. Go for it. Doesn't hurt anything.

It's part of learning for many. Learning doesn't stop because someone answered this same thread before. "Today you got learnt".

Where is all these toyota engine failures caused by not properly breaking in the engine? I'm not seeing any at my shop.
