You all are at fault for all of this, lol. If you don’t respond it gets no traction- but you fall for it EVERY TIME…l.and will over and over.

I have the 3.5l in my new 2023 Tacoma.
Doing a "break in" change at 1,000 miles certainly won't hurt anything except the wallet.
As the engine seats in, there will be some micro particles accumulating.

Being a former Toyota dealership mechanic (a very long time ago), I was very curious about the new engines.
My last is a 22RE in a '91 Truck that is still truckin' at 244k miles.

The VVT-i hardware has lots of moving parts that simply won't tolerate less than pristine oil.
I found a YouTube where the guy did a deep dive into the VVT and timing chains.
Nice to see Toyota is back to the dual link chains once again.

What, no STP? Studies have shown that VVT engines love that stuff.

What does it matter? It is so funny how an oil thread turns you guys upside down. Why do you care? And if you don’t like them why do you give it legs by responding?

You guys are so predictable. Does this sound familiar?

You are wasting money, but you do you. lol But don’t look at my new wheels. But don’t look at my new tires. But don’t look at my new suspension. Need I go on, because I can.

Let’s now go to your next predictable line? So, you think you’re smarter than a Toyota engineer? Do you mean the engineers who can’t figure out how to fix the rear diff howl? Or how about the engineers who can’t figure out the timing cover leak? Or did you mean the engineers who can’t figure out the leaky coolant y pipe? Need I go on, because I can.

Ok. Enough said. You may resume your whining.

Driving easy for the first 500 miles is really not for the engine. It's for the gears. Take it easy for the first 1000 and you won't have gear whine. But take it really easy for the first 200. I bought my truck from a dealer 200 miles away...I drove it home very easy...no gear whine or howl. The rear diff gets really hot (I used a pyrometer to check) during the first 200 or so miles. I made a lot stops to let things cool down because it was a hot day.

Now, after seeing the video, I'm glad I changed my oil at about 700 miles. Was going to wait for 1000 miles but I started seeing glitter on the dipstick...so I just did it a bit early. Did the next change (couple days ago) at 5k and the oil was pretty dark but no glitter that I could see.

it's 2023, and cars in 2023 come with guidance advising to:
    -no WOT
    -vary RPM
    -keep under certain RPM
    for x amount of miles

debris within the oil is visibly higher during this time, which an earlier oil change can remove

    tires are still round
    bores are still crosshatched

makes zero difference to me what you do with your engine
