I put new pads on the rear 12 Tacoma drums. It squeaks, The noise is a loud sound like your hand slipping on a wet glass door but much louder. I did not grease the touch points on the pads where it hits the side of the break housing. I can do that but am not sure this is what is going on. It seems worse when I am backing up then going forward. Also its only when I apply the breaks light and goes away when I press harder. I am wondering if I did not adjust the breaks correctly and they need to be adjusted out more.

You need to adjust the rear drums to the point where it cannot turn more than a half to full rotation freely. The shoes need to be right on the housing. Did you also change the housing or have them turned?

What will.i.was posted is spot on. Just to add, I have heard of cheap brake pads squeaking, and that some brake pads may squeak when they are brand new until they break in.

    OP,

Had this issue with aftermarket shoes on the Frontier truck and Ferd passenger cars.

    Here is the fix....
    1) clean the piss out of the drum and all the parts
    2) grease the backing plate with the same moly grease the front pads come with, don’t have any? Buy a can with the brush inside.
    3) grease all other pins, adjuster threads, etc
    4) take a file or even sand paper and sand the corners of the shoe material at a 45 degree angle, clean the shoes, lightly grease the pivot points on the shoes and reinstall.
    5) adjust the brakes as listed above in post 2

One of two things is happening, either you have no grease where you need it, or the edge of the friction material is dragging on the lip of the drum.

Let us know how this works out.

Well update. I did a check on where I got the pads. I picked them up for 19 bucks shipped on ebay. My bad. They were half worn when I checked them with only about 15k on the pads. I went to Auto Zone and bought the best pads they had. Ceramic pads 65 bucks for the disc front.. Installed and seems to be quite.
