    Hi All,
I just ordered my new Off Road Long Bed and was told it will be made this month - very exciting! I wanted to get a good start on my own knowledge before I have the Tacoma delivered. The truck and manual will be delivered to me sometime in late May. I wanted to ask about best practices from the community about "breaking in a new Tacoma" Any assistance would be appreciated.
I have heard changing oil within the first 100 miles is a good idea- true or not?
I have heard that keeping RPMs no higher than 4000 for first 1000 miles is good - true or not?
Any other important things I need to do or be aware of to start this long term relationship out on the best foot? -Thanks in advance for any assistance you might have.

Best practice? Don't tow anything for the first 500 miles. Otherwise fill it with regular pump gas and drive it as normal.

No truth to the rest of it. Oh and read the manual. :D

Not trying to be smart but here is a break in page in the manual all you have to do it read it and it will tell you exactly what to do for the break-in procedure.

Take it for a long test drive before you sign for it!
Make sure there's no little issues you don't like...

    Welcome to TW!

Best break in is to read the manual first (after you get the truck) then come here and ask questions on things you don't understand!

Second thing: take everything here with a grain of salt and don't take anything too personally.

    This place is fun.

It is pretty much just common sense, the Owners Manual has it so pretty much take it easy the first 1,000 Miles and you will be good to go.

I threat everything pretty much like an old Harley, 100mph right out the door. Change the oil at 500, 1,500, and every 5,000 after that.

I ride my shit pretty hard and haven't had any issues. Don't miss oil changes, and fix shit when it starts to act up.

    Welcome to TW

Total waste of money changing at 100 miles, some people here feel like changing at 1000 or before 5000 but that is just preference. I'm personally not going with the 10k oil intervals and opting for 5k because of my driving conditions. Preference for the most part but 100 miles is a documented waste of money (there are posts if you dig around where oil analysis showed no reason to be changed).

There really isn't any way of preventing 4000rpm, if you need to drive up a grade or pass somebody in your new truck you should do it, probably unsafe driving if you are too focused on not exceeding 4k rpm. It isn't a motorcycle that shipped with "break in oil".

This is all you need to do.
