Because that's 100 less than 1600 (which is 100 times 16) with 16 being equal to the number of quarts multiplied by the type of oil (2 cycle or 4 cycle) oil that you use.

2 Cycle oil only lasts 1/2 as long so you have to double it up and use 8 quarts instead of the 4 quarts you would normally use with 4 Cycle oil. Geez everybody knows that.

Here is how to calculate it: 2 Cycle and 8 Quarts give you the number 28. 28/4 = 7

Now, if you take 4 quarts of 4 Cycle oil you have the number 44. when you divide 44 by 6 (for V6 engines) you get 7 with a remainder of 2. This remainder of 2 indicates this oil will last twice as long. :D

I say just wait for the oil light to come on, that way you'll be sure to get your Tacoma "Broken"...er ah.....I mean "Broken in"

    I think there is.

I guess the best way to see is to drain all the oil out, and run the engine until you see a light turn on.

You're a fool to not change factory oil around 1000 miles. The metal parts are still wearing-in and the cylinder walls are being worn by the seating rings. Changed mine at 300 miles and the oil glistened in the sunlight...nothing but metal. Changed it again at 1300 with Amsoil and it came out looking like oil. I would NEVER have that amount of metal flowing through my engine for 5K miles as the stealership would have you do!

Also changed the diff/tranny fluids at 1300 miles and same thing. First suggested service at 30K? Yikes.

Metal?.......Wow you use mercury to lube your engine? That doesn't sound very environmentally friendly.

What is a seating ring? I have never heard of a " Seating " Ring before.

Compression Rings - yes, Scraper Rings - yes and Oil Control Rings - yes.

    Seating Ring - No.

I am thinking that you meant that the rings are still seating. Maybe, but I think that has happened already at 300 miles. Probably a lot sooner.

If you had metal that was visible in your oil after 300 miles. You have other problems.

    THIS.

I have seen the testing facilities at the engine assembly plants where they do their testing. Every engine is connected to a test stand, automatically filled with coolant, and connected to fuel and power. They run the shit out of the engine with load/no load rev up/down, everything. It is intended to seat the rings and do any necessary break-in. In addition, if anything is going to fail on the engine due to manufacturing defects, that is when it will fail. The tests are designed that way. There are occasionally some that get by though and those are a big deal to the manufacturer and the engineers that designed the test.

That being said *I* wouldn't drive it like I stole it off the lot. I was told 2 weeks ago to not use the cruise control for 500 Miles...

I broke mine in by driving from Lubbock TX to Enterprise AL, though I did avoid high RPM's (over 4k) for the first 5K miles or so.

I see this turned in to a troll fest pretty quick.
There's quite a difference in the mfg process between 1958 and 2014.
95% of maintenance quesions can be answered by reading this, but the posts keep coming on a daily basis
Where did you find this info?

Jimmy, sorry I wasn't clear - I did mean the rings seating against the cylinder walls.

You're more likely to wreck it before it will ever reach that.. I mean you are talking about a car that is almost 60 years old not some that are a few years old. There have been a few articles I read about million mile vehicles, volvo, a chebby, a couple of toyota vans from the 80s-90s.

If you look at the majority of my posts on other threads, you will see that I am actually very helpful.

Lighten up, we (me and "people like me") are just having a little fun here. :)

at honda idk about others engines are assembled in Lincoln Alabama. They don't come assembled. A gallon or so of fuel is placed in tank. Then they are run around a small test track. If no rattles heard they go to storage for shipment. That's not broken in IMO.

The blanket state of all engines is incorrect.

    How do I know?

    Quality control at Honda.
