Keep me informed. I planned to head back out there the end of Sept. I'll take 2 weeks off and have 20 days to dick around.

amazing build. i found your truck because someone linked to this tread and your writeup about 4x4 conversion in a thread I started here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wwyd-the-old-sell-trade-in-prerunner-for-4wd-predicament.705104/

curious to know your thoughts on my dilemma. I'm on the fence because I'm not super mechanically inclined. i think i can be patient in sourcing the parts, but that's about it. i wonder if anyone in southwest region does these installations if i were to source all the parts? gotta think long and hard about this.

I was in the exact same boat man. I started out with a rear locker and then realized I needed more traction. Truck was paid off and only had 109k. I researched TW for like a year and then when I felt comfortable with my knowledge I sourced the parts. I put the guid together to make it easier for people. So you could have everything you needed in one place. I had to look all over the place and get part numbers and stuff.

it’s really not that bad. If you can put on a lift you can do the conversion. It’s 90% bolt on. The only modifications is the crossmember to the frame and if you want your shifter for the tcase to come up in the coin slot for a clean look. I would strongly recommend doing the conversion since it sounds like you have a lot already invested. It brings a huge amount of satisfaction when your done. I’ve put about 5k on my truck and wheeled it pretty hard since and everything is perfect. Factory like.

thanks so much for the response. I think i'm going to start exploring this idea more and possibly go this route. did you lose any safety features by doing this? this will be our family hauler as well.

Nope all is the same as before. Just added front diff t-case and cv. I even was able to make the dash lights for 4x4 work. Your dash cluster is prewired for the lights.

Thinking of just doing +4 plus the mod that @EatSleepTacos did with the 1 inch spacer.

Yeah you could do that or just order the correct size you need and not have a secondary part to get the extra length

I literally called them told the what I had and what I wanted and only ordered enough to do the rear. It isn't on their website but in sets of 4. If you call you can just order the rears. Mine are like 30" or something like that. +4 is like 28 iirc

Yes i will get full droop, hes making mine almost same height as archive kit. I have Dakar HD i think can only droop 12 inches anyways. Ive got the best setup for the droop with the archive shackle hangers and the poly bushings.

Maybe mine were 32" I completely forgot. I remember reading a bunch of the LT guys lengths and got something a little shorter.
I'd be down. I may be doing rear brakes in your driveway if I don't get them done before then

Lol drums are a pain in the ass. I busted mine right before our wind rock trip and said fuck it and took it to the dealership which all things considered wasnt that outrageous haha. Plus i had no time to fix before trip so i kind of had no option.

Eh they aren't bad. I've done so many I can do them pretty easily. I blew my wheel cyl at windrock on trail 15 pinched the line off got off the trail and had it repaired the next morning in less than an hr.
