+1 on the 5vz turbo thread. You need to get all the other turbo builds and ask for there entire setup and then list it. List it as...

    Turbo (model, ar specs, etc...)

    Maf location

    Intercooler specs

    Oil routing

    Water routing, if used

    Exhaust specs

    Fuel mods( fuel pump, injectors)

    Engine management

Those should be the most important things I think. I would get all the turbo guys together and make the thread based on what they think as well.

Absolutely! Finding them all will be the fun part lol...I've seen like 5 or 6 5VZ guys with a turbo setup. Since this engine has a bit of neglect as far as aftermarket is concerned, I may as well include the 5VZ tundras and 4runners as well since the share so many like qualities.

I may need a thread to gather information on turbo setups just so i can go make another permanent organized thread lmao...

Auto with a shift kit. When it shifts it'll break traction from 1st to 2nd then from 2nd to 3rd haha :burnrubber:
It should be up to the task of handling 300whp-350, atleast thats what the supra guys say.

So why did you choose to piece out so much individually and not just go with the full kit from CX?

Well the full kit comes with a huge IC that hangs supppppper low. There gaskets are junk and it also doesn't come with an oil cooler. aside from that there BOV and wastegate are theoretically junk and are quite crucial. (the waste also gate also comes with a 8 psi spring which is to much for the stock ecu, rendering it undriveable until i could get the FIC6).

Oh yeah and the CX kit comes with absolutely no hardware for plumbing fluids and such. Oil lines, AN fittings, bungs, water if you choose to cool the snail in that fashion, etc...

lol im tired so its all jumbled..but there still haha

Gotcha. So what was your final bill with those upgraded/extra components from the kit if you don't mind?

Kit with no FIC, injectors, boost controller, or harness: grand total of around $2700.

I'll make a super in depth thread later after i'm done, so others can follow after me and people like Gio so that way we can make this turbo 3.4 an established deal, yah feel? :D

Kit with FIC, injectors, boost controller and harness: around $2700+$1000~ and you're lookin at $3700 dollars for as much boost as you're willing to risk haha. but seriously. s/c with 2.1 pulley and a 7th injector and you're hitting maybe 12psi near sea level and about 250-270 to the wheel(s).

Turbo and you are looking at 12psi near sea level and 300-350 to the wheel(s), because of lower intake temps and larger headers and exhaust.

    $3000=250~270

$3700=300-350 (350 may be pushin it...not sure lol. not to many of these have been brought down by excess horsepower..who knows maybe it can make 400 rwhp...doubt it lol)

But hey when you supe these trucks you GOTTA be willing to throw cash down the drain lol.

My way of thinking is that i dont need fancy new truck features. A new truck is gona cost me $50000+. I can put a whole lot less into the taco and probably have the most capable and badass truck in my area.

Haha exactly. Either new slow truck or old fast truck...being a teenager there's really no arguments to be made here. Go fast. :D

well the closest thing to fast i've ever been in is my dad's 396hp (diesel, gobs of torque) 3500hd chevy, and for a 1 ton it sure ain't slow but something close to that power in something that's also less than half its weight HAS to be fast lol

Wow $1200 difference, not kidding about those kit parts being junk. Is that bump up also due to a name brand turbo or just the waste gate and BOV?

The only things I've ever heard of breaking are rods and it's typically not due to internal stress but some small malfunction that snowballed too big and too fast under boosted application. I think near 400 and you run into driveline and tranny issues as well so the $$investment/power curve starts to flatten out.

Can't wait to see progress, do you have any concrete timeline to completion or are you just chipping away with any free time you have?

You'll end up spending closer to 4-5k for the turbo stuff. You'll have to replace a lot of the cxracing stuff and me personally I'd never run a CX trubo period. The exhaust manifold and down pipe are the only things worth keeping from them IMO.

Assuming I buy what i have on my list, then im only gonna be spending around $2700, then more later of course to properly tune it and what not. And hey if there turbo blows up I can always blame Grey lol.(not really :D) Plus I don't see how anything from them aside from there turbo would blow up...I mean I've never seen an Intercooler melt or explode XD. Although if i get a brand named turbo then yeah your right, around 4k-5k

Yup, It needs to be completed by the end of summer. That bump would be caused by the AEM FIC, wiring harness for said FIC, and injectors. Otherwise blackdog is right, around 4k~ to get a brand name turbo with all of that, but I'll see how a cxracing one treats me. And I'll only really be shooting for around 300-350

Sorry still unclear. So you're essentially buying this kit:

    http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchan...duct_Code=TRB-KIT-5VZFE-IC-KIT&Category_Code=

Except a different IC (but roughly the same cost?), upgraded wastegate and upgraded BOV and your cost went from $1500 to $2700?

Would you highly advise against the full kit? I honestly just need a jumping off point as I tend to learn faster when I dive in head first. I expect stuff to break but how much back tracking, dollar wise, would I really be doing from the kit? I.E. How much money would I be wasting on parts that are going to need immediate replacing?

At 5000 ft my ambient pressure is slightly above 12 psi so I'm thinking 8 psi would be just dandy for all stock and a progressive methanol kit.
