Lol. That's a 71mm major on the compressor. Fucking huge. Haha no slow still. Be around 3k my guess before you see positive boost. Which leaves 1500-2000 rpm of useable power. Only 2500 till red line.

The turbo I speced had a 55mm major. A lot smaller.

There's give and take though for smaller vs bigger. Smaller means more preassure is needed to flow the same air as a bigger turbo at a lower preassure.

I still believe strongly that every single turbo 5vz I've seen has been done with too large of a turbo.

Thought I'd be doing it myself soon here but bought a blower instead for reliability reasons and time reasons.

It's a custom made garret. Cost about 1350? I think..plus you'd need a custom down pipe as its a 4bolt rear flange not a V band. Though I bet you could get them to make it Vband.

    Not cheap..

I'll try and see if I have the spec sheet saved.

Well hmmm anything on the market close to it? I know Turbonetics has some smaller units that aren't super up there. Also the 71 is a 4 b0lt that im converting to Vband

Hmm Id have to know more about how they classify their wheels. Each company does it a bit different. That one appears it could be setup well though. Turbonetics is a nice brand too.

I know I looked at a ton but when I was seriously putting parts together I know garret was the closest to what I wanted.

Looking at it more..I don't love it. Would like the compressor a tad bigger for more efficient air flow and they don't have a nice a/R ratio for the turbine. Id like it around .58-.60 personally.

But with the 50trim and the 62 turbine with a .63a/r wouldn't be bad. Id rather the turbine be a touch bigger as well since out motor is 3.4L

. Id want to see a flow chart of it honestly. That could be pushing the turbo to far out of its good effective zone. But I'm going to bed haha

Heres my deal. I'm working 40 hours a week right now in 100+ degree heat. So here's my mentality. CXracing turbo was about two 40 hour weeks of hot painful work (not lookin for pitty just want you to see my reasoning :D)
And a Precision, Garrett, Turbonetics etc..Would be another 3 weeks of work, maybe more...lol so I think I'll see how this massive thing treats me, and if it's super bad I'll bite the bullet and get something more appropriate. Good night :D

    Go for it haha

The cx one is fine to get going. But it won't last as long and it isn't the right size imo.

Id want it done right the first time and tuned once. But that's just me..

For the 5vz? I swear I read long ago that peak torque was something like 3500-3600 on these motors...

Peak torque at 3600rpm, but it starts off around 2100rpm making meaningful torque.

    So lets see.
    T04E 50 Trim compressor
    Standard bearing (journal)
    Oil cooled
    F1-68 Turbine wheel (68mm)
    3" V-Band
    Hot side .58AR

    Your Specs
    55mm Compressor
    70mm Turbine wheel
    .60AR hot
    Oil cooled (I assume)
    4-Bolt downpipe flange

I'm gonna email CXracing and see about returning this giant thing. Then I'll start working toward that Turbonetics custom unit.
