What are you tuning with? I've got a great remote tuner if it's Haltech or MegaSquirt who's very familiar with 5VZ. What shimless buckets did you get, we were looking at using 1ZZ ones, but also decided that with the low lift of the camry cams and that engines stock redline of 6900 that we could push safely to 7500 (provided it is still making power up there) with the regular shim over buckets too. Then we wouldn't have to grind a whole bunch of shimless buckets to size

I'm using stock 3vzfe buckets, they vary in thickness from like 33 to 43? (Idk what the numbers mean). I plan to use a haltech of some kind. I'd like to rev this engine to 7k ish and the bottom end geometry is very favorable to that, I'd just be scared those shim over buckets would hop out, maybe they won't with stiffer springs though.

I literally tore apart a 3VZ-FE head two days ago, they had the exact same buckets and shim style as a 5VZ

    Hmmmmmm

Well I guess I don't actually know, they came with the kit I bought off a guy on eBay. He said the cams and buckets were from a 3vzfe.

Edit: Just looked for the messages and I can't find them so it's totally possible they are from something else.

Edit 2: yeah looks like they arent from a 3vzfe

    Little camry update.

New ignitor changed nothing, but I used a multimeter and found the the coil is only receiving 6.8v for whatever reason. If I measure the potential from the coil plug positive the the battery it is 12+ volts but the potential from the coil plug positive to coil plug negative is only 6.8v...

I'm not sure what the deal is there so im gonna try and wire the coil directly to 12v and see what happens.

wiring it to 12v did not work and triggered a p1300 code, no biggy its been reset. Considering the coil is switched on via a relay tied to the key switch im gonna replace that next and see what happens...

New relay and I've got 12v to the coil plug...unfortunately in my testing I killed the coil lmao. I'm guessing it shouldn't have 0 ohms of resistance :D?

Who's your remote tuner? This may very well be a route for me to take for the time being.

Again with this 28 year old car!

While the relay was certainly on its way out and the coil needed swapping after i messed it up...neither thing has solved my issue. Now upon turning the key the p1300 code pops up immediately. As far as I know I've touched every part of the ignition sytem except the crank sensor and I assume the hal effect sensor in the distributor is good since it cause a consistent response on the multimeter.

I've pulled the ecu to inspect for any burn or damaged looking components...but it all looks fine...

Truly I have no clue what the deal is

That's a variable reluctance sensor in the distributor, It's very hard to kill them

The crank and cam position sensors are on the same circuit here too, very weird setup...
