    OEM N/A tune might have more timing than what it'd run if it were F/I.

    If you're getting any pinging, then being able to adjust timing has its obvious benefits.

    Yeah I read that about the o2 sensor sim only being needed for older tacomas. I'm not sure which mine would need, it's 2000 and has 2 o2 sensors. But in either case it'd be the MAF and the o2/afr cal in order to tune both open and closed loop.

    Timing would be nice but I don't think it's necessary for an intercooled turbo setup. I'm sure you'll be at the far end of what the stock ecm can adjust for but it can't be nearly as bad as the TRD s/c which was 85% cured with a completely untuned methanol kit running 30:70 for me. What is the timing situation with your set up @Torspd ?

    I have an auto which means I have a wideband primary and since you're a 2000 model you probably have one too...Idk though... And a lot of guys run this kit with no timing help, doing the chevy knock sensor upgrade also helps, along with an intercooler (which I will have to get a bigger one...winter/fall/spring spring may be ok but summer is a bit to warm I think)

    Stand-alone with full control everything. With no timing adjustment, it definitely pings and or knocks, above 8 psi. Different engine, different ecu. The point is, better safe than sorry, and follow the paths of those whom have done it all right, with proper engineering practices.

    Summer is the most taxing here. The humidity and temp., increase IAT's A LOT. Which it the most critical factor for knock potential. Next is fuel mixture. An intercooler will reduce IAT's over no intercooler, but the turbo will still increase the ingested air temp versus N/A. Since your MAF is now pre turbo, you won't know your IAT's post intercooler, without an additional sensor.

    Luckily the 5vz is an iron block, and the internals are fairly strong. Keep that knock at bay, or parts will bend to its will.

    Well I'd be a fool not to listen to yah, an yeah not adjusting timing would be a bad idea the more I think about it...So MAF/Timing Cal and a AFR Cal should be what I need, hopefully they can work in parallel. And with that I should be able to control open and closed loop.

    Speak with Gadget on that combo. I know the MAF-Cal can do some closed loop tuning. Ask to remove any doubts of confliction between the two devices.

    IIRC this build was a case of "if you can shove enough fuel into it" it's possible, not reliable, but possible. That apexi would be a good thing to tune with, compact and easy. The issue is finding a wiring diagram for it. It can control open and closed loop by setting afr's at various rpms.https://youtu.be/XjqCzyV800U

    An FMU is a fuel multiplying unit. Interchangeable disks change the ratio. With boost pressure, instead of having a 1:1 rising fuel pressure regulator, the FMU can increase fuel pressure 4:1, 6:1, 8:1, etc, with the disks.

    However with stock injectors a ton of psi through them isn't the best idea...

    @Clay_916 FMU's also continue to add pressure regardless of driving conditions, meaning if you're turbo boosts at cruise you can go ahead and say bye bye mpgs lol

    It was the go to method to get extra fuel, from "X" sized injectors, before high accuracy electronics allowed for more accurate injector control and larger injectors *EDIT* > For the masses* It was the mechanical method versus the now electronic method.

    It actually wasn't until just a few years ago that High Impedance injectors were offered in a size greater than 550ccm, then 750ccm.

    Yeah, those little units are pretty neat, not to mention they look cool too haha. There like $450 for AFR calibration, timing and MAF calibration. The downside is there's no wiring diagrams I can find otherwise they were my second choice below the fic6

    Correction. Likely used the APEXi SAFC to refine the added fuel from the fmu a little bit, to get his target or near target AFR's, while in boost .

    Haven't found anything about timing, with the SAFC.

    Huh so that MAF/timing cal is my best bet then.
