You could also do the AEM with the extension harness from URD. AEM doesn't sell an extension harness for the 1st gen? I know they do for the 2nd gen.

Just received my Boomslang harness for my future Haltech, a few weeks ago. :woot:

Anyone know of someone using AEM FIC on a 3rz? I'm having trouble finding info on that.

Well I just took a look at AEM's sight and I didn't find any extension harnesses for a 99 v6...The mapecu deal would be cheaper in the long run anyway, and since this is a budget build I don't see any reason I wouldn't buy it instead of the AEM...I guess if you could get an Ebay aem and extension harness it would be more worth it but since I can't actually find an extension harness the mapecu is winning... @vasinvictor Did you have an extension harness or did you just wire straight to the OEM harness?

In other news, I may have just gotten a spare 5vzfe...Forged build someday maybe? :D

EDIT: I'm stupid...I can just use the URD harness with the AEM, Didn't realize what you were saying Torspd lol. In that case The AEM would be cheaper and from what I understand, nearly as capable as the mapecu. So I think I'm going the AEM route.

    MapEcu
    $500(group buy)+$200(harness)=$700

    AEM fi/c6
    $380(ebay)+$200(harness)=$580~600

I guess the difference in price isn't too much, however like @vasinvictor said (in short) the AEM is much more convenient, especially with wiring. (which I have to agree with since it's all I'm finding on Yota forums, correct me if im wrong)

EDITT: AEM is $370 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/AEM-30-1910-Cylinder-Ignition-Controller/dp/B001DX58KA

AEM does not have boost control built in but that would be awesome. It does have a built in MAP obviously which is how you tune. I compared the two and liked the AEM for their injector intercept, and it seemed to run larger injectors better. I also like how well documented it is because it's been around a long time and there are many many users. There's another guy on customtacos who had fits tuning closed loop boost with his MAP3 and ended up removing the wideband o2 altogether and creating the whole fuel map, thus making it more like a standalone. Ugh I aint got time for that. The AEM was CAKE to tune closed loop, by contrast. Not only is the AEM way cheaper, but I personally feel like it's a better product.

I'm on 9psi with stock fuel pump at 10.5 afr 93 octane pump fuel. Stock pump handles it fine.

I used the "flying leads" harness that AEM provides. They're like 3' long and I wired them directly into the factory wiring harness. Soldered every connection too.

What do you mean? The universal universal F/IC will wire up just like any other. Just tap or intercept the wires based on the wiring diagrams. It will work and tune just like any other motor.

I guess my only worry is there not being enough wire in the OEM harness...Also isnt 10.5 to 1 a bit rich? Wouldn't you want 11.5 to 12.0 at full boost?

Yeah I am being overly cautious. I've always run meth but I do not it hooked up currently. I will feel much safer at 11.5 with windshield washer fluid. Plus I guess I am losing some power, but it's really strong at 9psi and goes 11.4 in the 1000' (mid 13 second 1/4 mile) so I'm not concerned with losing 10-20hp for longevity.

Think I'm going with fic as well. How much does a typical EBC run? My wg is 7 psi and I am definitely bumping it up. Anyone know a good place for injectors? Found a place, racetronix, which sells them for around $50 a pop. Everywhere else I've looked they are at least $80. Also, I'm assuming I need high impedance?

Thanks man :D don't we only need to worry about retarding it though?

I found a set of 440cc's on eBay for like $190 :notsure: also what does EBC stand for?

I figured wiring was fairly straightforward. I was mostly wanting to see what hands on experience anyone had and any tuning tips or issues. Thanks for the reply though. Still very helpful

MAP3 can advance. Timing advanced would be useful if you're running e85 or maybe 116 race gas. Otherwise with pump gas, you only need to worry about retard. I'm not even retarding any timing on 9psi FWIW. I used OsideTiger injectors from ebay and they work great. Their customer support is also good, I had to call twice and got an english speaking human immediately both times :)

Lol good to know, I'll keep a look out for them. What injector designs fit the surfaces on the manifold and rail? I'm just curious. Also, have any pictures of the ones you got?

I use a cheap manual boost controlled (MBC) and a boost solenoid. If I bypass the MBC (using the solenoid) it runs on wastegate spring, 9lb. If I flip a switch to activate the solenoid and make it run through the MBC, then it will go to 15psi (or whatever you have teh MBC set at). You can also use that same switch to automatically switch the AEM F/IC to "Map B" and use your high boost tune. Alternatively you can use an EBC to simply things ($$) Many way to skin this cat

Yes, you need high impedance injectors.
