Hm that reminded me. My turbo doesn't really make any spooling noises, Myself and others describe it as sound like a industrial vacuum cleaner lol...

Yours isn't making enough boost yet. Up the boost, and make that jet turbine whistle!

I sure hope so. Speaking of upping the boost, I'm doing that today! Goin out to home depot to get me the stuff to make a boost controller, and hopefully a switch that breaks a connection under pressure so that way I can cut the o2 sensor signal to the ecu when I hit boost, thereby causing the ECU to go into open loop at part throttle.

Its a 4.5lb spring(s) but its pre intercooler, to respond faster, which in turn lowers the manifold pressure.
https://howlandtechnology.com/store/psf103-9061-903.html apprently this one work with anything past atmospheric, Im hoping home depot will have something like it. I need it to react relatively low with boost since I start spooling at around 2100 or so and at that point full throttle is a ways off.

 aren't all wastegates pre intercooler? (I guess it depends on where you start tracking) unless you are cooling you exhaust temps???

Well you can put in either spot. Pre IC makes the manifold see less boost due to the pressure drop through the intercooler, but responds faster to boost pressure.
Post IC and you'll get the true wastegate spring pressure but the wastegate won't open and close as quickly since it will be referenced farther from the turbo. Atleast thats how I understand it...:D

I'm so confused right now... how can your wastegate let excess exhaust bypass if it is in you cold side piping man, one of us has something going on today haha, do you mean that you have your boost line for your wastegate in you pre IC pipe?

I bought a manual boost controller for $20 on eBay. 0-30 psi. I think if you made one yourself you'd save $10. On the stock system you should be good up to 4-5 psi. You could buy a cheapo stage 1 meth kit for like $150 and be safe to like 7 psi and honestly I would stay that route until you're ready for like 12 psi. The fic6 is great but it's total overkill on my setup IMO at 10 psi.

Oh and wtf is all this LS swap being cheaper than a turbo? I don't have much knowledge on that swap or experience but that sounds crazy to me. How much does the swap actually cost? I'm pretty happy with my 21 mpg though so it's not something I'd consider on a DD.

Ls's get great mileage on EFI, itd be super cheap for me since I have a spare ls block sitting around, but it can be done for around $2800-3200 dollars if done right. Before I lost it, I had a journal full of everything needed for a Tacoma ls swap, EVERYTHING then I lost it lol. I think speed freak got like 24mpg

All manual wastegates have a cracking pressure. It increases as the boost pressure is increased.

An electronic boost controller can make that cracking pressure much closer to boost pressure.

The source of the wastegate's reference, pre TB or post TB will depend on how much boost the engine sees. Depending upon how much a pressure drop there is across the intercooler and tubing. The more efficient the intercooler the less the drop.

Referenced from the manifold, the wastegate will actuate it pressure level from there. Example, 5 psi spring will open at 5 psi when the manifold has 5 psi.

From the turbo, the wastegate will open at 5 psi, but the intercooler has a 3psi drop, so the boost gauge (referenced from the manifold) only shows 2psi, at the manifold.

In that example, the wastegate referenced from the manifold will actually make the turbo spin to 8psi, to get five at the manifold.
