Update. Newest problem im encountering. The truck stalls out as soon as i turn it over. Im so frustrated with this entire project im about to call it quits. Ive been requesting other members to send me pics of their setups so i can compare everything was hooked up correctly. Im going to have to come to terms that itll most likely go to a shop so they can fix whatever the problem is

Are you running a larger than stock downpipe or midpipe? If so, i heard that this can be caused by the exhaust gases not being hot enough for the o2 sensor and the fix was to move the o2 sensor further upstream. more info here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/turbo-bs-thread.481844/page-489#post-19616621

Just spitballing as this came to mind when i read your post

How is your maf set up? Is it possible it's in backward?... Or that you have a vacuum line that isn't connected some where?

Yes that is entirely possible. However im still not exactly sure how the hell to route the vacuum lines. Is it possible to put the MAF in backwards?

Would you be able to send me a pic of your set up. And also what does it mean when you reference boost?

If the pipe it is in is turned the wrong way the maf would have aid flowing the wrong way over it. It would be screwed In correct in relation to the pipe, but if you have the pipe in 180° from what it should be... If that makes Sense

This. Make sure it's oriented properly, as in, make sure air flows into the MAF the same way it did as stock. A pic of your setup would be helpful.
Well not really since my truck is stock now. But I can try and find an old pic. And a boost reference just means a port on the intake that sees boost pressure. So in order to "read" the boost the turbo is putting into the engine you reference it off the intake. Basically plug the boost guage into the intake manifold preferably after the throttle body so you can also see vacuum.

Sounds like you need someone to video conference you or come over to help you out.

Plus you need to post some pictures of your current setup, for reference. So the experienced members can point out faults.

You want to make sure the airflow before the maf is nice and even. Make sure you have long straight sections before and after the maf. You also don't want the diameter before and after the maf placement to change drastically. Maf placement contributes to driveability immensely.

It has been awhile... This truck is now my daily driver. The turbo manifolds have been removed along with the AEM FIC. Without the turbo the transmission wasn't getting up to temp in regular everyday driving so I added a 180F thermostat. I also installed a cheap eBay intake, re-gapped the plugs and bought stock manifolds and crossover along with a new 2.5" exhaust with my 2005's old muffler.

I cant remember if I covered it before but the turbo setup was removed due to the fact that I plumbed the wastegate incorrectly and over-boosted to 24 PSI at WOT. Surprisingly the motor took it, but the cheap turbo did not and the compressor wheel collided with the compressor housing, so stock we are. For a few seconds the truck was incredibly fast, quite literally the fastest thing I've ever experienced...

Sold the old daily in a sellers market

    Some random exhaust parts

New intake was waaayyyyyy too loud so I made this sheet metal cover with some foam.

There and back. Still working well. Good thing the turbo failed first.

    How's the other truck running?

Should ask the guy who bought it. ;)

Good I assume after some new-used sparkplugs.

A friend of mind did the driver side sparkplugs on my 05 a couple years ago and neglected to torque them after. The result was a something that sounded like rod knock once the engine was warm, scared me half to death. Honestly surprised it ran as well as it did.
    For reference, the offending plug:
    20211010_183822 (1).jpg
Notice the missing ground electrode. Never had a miss code and the plug was only like 5 threads in so that's cool.

Means it was high enough for the arc to ground to the head.

Dang, that sucks. My $300 Amazon turbo has held up great. Why didn’t you just throw in another cheap one?

Time and money. I wasn't ever able to get it tuned correctly and I just wasn't happy with the quality of the build overall. That and I was sick of dealing with exhaust leaks, poor fuel mileage and the deafening turbo suck noise.

Quite frankly my 05 was always nicer to drive. Reliable, quiet and had a nice sound system. So this truck sat unused for years except to drive it a bit and try and tune it maybe once every 3 months. Now that I've sold the 05 I wanted the 99 to be my nice daily.
