That's where I (and I think most people) disagree. In my opinion when you sign up for a group buy you are committing to it to the end, no backing out.

Ppl dont value their word anymore, which by law is still a binding contract. The list is to show which ppl value their word while others do not, pretty simple.

So....If a pet or loved one gets hurt, or passes away, then what? OR, if the person looses their job? Etc.......
A "Verbal Contract" is not binding in all states.

I do agree that there are legitimate reasons for backing out and therefor not being put on the list like those you listed.

id love to see someone take me to court over a verbal contract, my uncle would have a hay day with it haha

i work in a market that word means nothing, in fact everybody is looking for out on every contract its a shitty deal but my view is stated as above

And if its not 50 states its not internet binding. I still strive to stand by my word word, and enjoy when others do the same.

Blacklist is not the end of the world, just a reminder that those ppl have backed out on their word in the past and be mindful of their previous actions. Seems legit to me.

And therein lies the issue. Other things can arise in ones life, that might not seem like a big deal to some, but huge deal to the person. With the economy in the tank, many people are hit in different ways, and view things going on, or happening in their life different than others would. And what if the person doesnt want to give a reason for backing out? Maybe something happened thats either embarrassing, or they dont feel like telling 40,000 stranges about their life? Then what? Its been mentioned that many sites dont even allow GB's to happen.

I see no reason someone should be put on a "BLack List" due to a change in their life forcing them to have to pull out of a group buy. At this point in time, see'ing how many people are wanting to "black list" folks......Im not only regretting my vote, but now thinking there shouldnt even be GB's on TW anymore.

Not against this at all.. But

Just was a little curious as to why it really matters in the long run? Things can happen and kind of force someones hand to back out of a GB..

Like I said, Sounds like a good idea. Just wanted to see what the reasoning for wanting to be able to call people out..

Mostly just thinking out loud (text). I mean......with all this brought to light, what happens to the first person forced to pull out of the next GB? If no black list is up, does he get called out on the main board? Bashed behind the scenes? This kind of atmosphere goes directly against the TW Code of Conduct.

i have only been involved in one group buy....and it worked out great....
that being said if this is a huge problem "which i didnt think it was on this site".....
with a few exceptions....dont think there should be a list........
i think the vendors that want to move their item should just price it accordingly.....and say if they reach a certain # them pick a name outa a hat and one member recieves theirs for free or something like that......
i saw the last list and some good folks were on it...that had legit reasons for backing out and not only that one member made sure someone took his spot before he asked to be removed from list.....
    idk. about all this..
    but to each there own
me i am a man of my work.....
    end of story
p.s. who is this op anyway

The main reason this thread reappeared was b/c of ppl committing to a group buy then leaving to another, not any catastrophes or family emergencies.

It just sucks when u commit and then get less discount than you were expecting. Happened to me in an Allpro group buy, thought u was going to get twice the discount. Then again i understanf that until money changes hands its not a deal in some circles.

Absolutely! If you put your name in a GB for an item, you should be able to afford the original price, not only the group buy price. That is why it is better to do the, get xx people to get on board, then contact the seller, like the All pro bumper gb going on now. This way everyone is in the know. If a vender does a GB and expects everyone who said "i" to buy, they are ignorant when it comes to business, and shouldnt run a GB anyway. I am all for people being a man/woman of their word, but damn sheet happens sometimes....smh at this thread as a whole. This is why we lose members as it is...

Ok, so someone who jumps from one GB to another or bails because the discount isn' what they expected... No need for a "blacklist". Let the Vendors or the member coordinating the GB handle it. If I were a vendor or coordinating a GB I wouldn't let that person in on it.

    Lots.
I've backed out of a group buy before, but I still like the idea. It will make me think twice before making a commitment to buying.

However, if the group buy thread is to "gauge interest", then the group buy "goes live" and the person backs out, then that person's name shouldn't be put on the blacklist.

I gave it the thumbsup because I see it as nothing more than a list. Say there are a handful of 5 - 10 people who consistantly confirm they will order as part of a group buy, then back out once the group buy finally takes off. If I'm running a new group buy, just crossed the minimum number of people required to get the discount but 5 of them are on the black list for having backed out several times, then I'd wait to get more people rather than opening the ordering process and screwing everyone out of the discount they thought they had.

As far as bailing because the discount isn't what was expected, I don't think you should be committed to a group buy if the prices aren't known. I've said multiple times I'd be interested in a group buy for X. But when it came together, the discount was minimal and I pulled out because it wasn't something I needed then and, if I wasn't going to get a decent discount, it wasn't worth putting the money out. Backing out of a feeler shouldn't lead to being black listed in my opinion. Until terms of the group buy and prices are laid out, it's just gauging interest. Once the group buy is on, and you commit to buy a product at a specific discounted price, then back out, that's when I think the list should be created.

Chris16 brought up a good point about the atmosphere here. I agree that if a black list would cause a lot of hostility, then maybe it shouldn't be put in place and members would sign up for group buys at their own risk. That being said, usually there is a list at the end of each group buy that shows which members paid/shipped/never ordered so the information for this list already exists anyways. I think this debate is just whether it should be compiled into one place for easy access...
