Awesome! I've been interested in doing the modification for some time now and saw your truck.

Installed my new Sony XAV-5000 apple carplay headunit today, super easy install. Used the Metra wiring harness and the Metra dash kit. Not 100% sure if I’ll keep the metra dash kit because the fitment isn’t great and it feels very cheap (because it was). As for the install itself, if you can read what wire goes to what and you can connect wires with butt connectors you can do this install in about an hour. The headunit is extremely responsive and quick. I love the carplay and the quality of the screen is amazing for the price.

At cartoys i got a free backup camera, which i mounted on my front bumper because I already have the factory backup camera. Now I have a forward facing camera for trail use and mall crawling when I’m close to cars.

The microphone included with the headunit is extremely clear. I mounted it on the A pillar and ran the wire down the pillar, under the dash, and into the radio.

Overall, I’m extremely pleased with how the install went and the improvement of my JL speakers with the headunits built in “amp”. Amplifier install is coming soon, excited to hear the full potential of my speakers and get my sub hooked up! It is truly awesome having apple CarPlay with Waze, Apple Music, and wireless call/text features!

    Stay tuned for more!

Looks good! Im assuming its touchscreen? I have been thinking about replacing my stock setup with something similar to this.

Im assuming because of the microphone that its also bluetooth enabled? Have you tried out the phone call feature yet?

Yep it has a capacitive touch screen so it feels like an iPhone. It does have bluetooth with handsfree call/text features. People I have called today have said my voice comes through very loud and clear

I bought it from cartoys, but you can get this plus everything you need (dash kit, wiring harness, steering wheel control module) on Crutchfield.com for the same price if not cheaper

Update on sound system- I will be returning the kicker sub to go with the JL 12” subwoofer box. The kicker simply doesnt have the output or bass that I want.

Went mudding last night, beyond impressed with my Cooper XLT's. The aggressive sidewall helped a lot when I was in deep ruts and I never slid while my buddy in his tacoma with 35" Nitto M/T's kept going sideways

Just read through the whole thread. Very, very fun read. I'll echo what others have said. Forget about the remaining hail dents. Those dents tell a backstory now and make the truck just that much more special. Good work man, enjoy the hell out of that truck.

I find it very hard to believe that you bought all this shit from reffing soccer games without some help from mommy and daddy... but if it is in fact true, you sir are a gentleman and a scholar... sweet build.

$30-$60 a game, reffing 6-8 games a week adds up over a few years. Of course I got money elsewhere for birthdays or doing yard work for people and whatever. Especially when you never spend money, but I have 2 jobs now to save for college and truck parts. If you know how to save money anything is possible.

Not truck related, but I have officially committed to attend Baylor University come fall. Planning to major in Neuroscience and go onto medical school after I graduate. Mods on the truck are gonna be postponed for a little while so I can save more for college, $60k a year is gonna be fun:rofl:Luckily I have some scholarships, but I also don’t want to live off of ramen and hot dogs

Baylor is exactly where my father went to school.
Physical Therapy and Neuroscience were his major studies.
I was born there at Baylor Medical center.
