hello. I have a gen 1 2.7l 4wd taco. it broke down right before I left for Afghanistan in the middle if the road. I had assumptions that it was the rear diff due to the fact that the front tires still turned and the rear tires were locked up in the snow. but as of returning to the united stated I noticed a clicking sound coming from the front of the truck and when I started her (after a year
) she spit oil out of the exhaust all over the place. any idea whats broke??? is this normal for it so spit oil like that on a start after so long??? genuinely need help. I have to move across the country in 2 months and need to fix it or I could lose my taco. I love it to death but I need to know whats wrong with it to get it fixed and im losing my mind on it right now. engine runs fine but its spitting oil (after sitting for a year) and she doesn't roll.

    Welcome to TW!

Sounds like you have multiple issues at hand, the rear locking up sounds like it can be anything from the transmission to the diff to the brakes. If you were WOT in 4wd while playing in the snow Id be tempted to say it's your diff. If you had just started driving and they then locked up I would take a look at the brakes since they like to freeze sometimes in the winter. The engine oil spitting out doesn't sound too good and again can be multiple issues. From my personal experience it's from valve guides. However, an engine that sits from a year without getting some cylinder fogger or a little squirt of oil before cranking up can sometimes result in seized piston rings.

A good number of things you have going on with your little Tacoma.

I'd get it towed to a reputable shop and see what they say. I'd probably have them check the motor first and see what the damage is before moving onto the drivetrain.

    Welcome aboard Dameion
Have you verified both rear wheels not spinning under power?
No blue or grey exhaust smoke?
Are you sure it's spitting oil not water and carbon?
