Ac went out in middle of summer
And never got it fix. Well. Ow it’s about to be winter and need my defrost to work. How do I get my heat to work in car without engaging the a/c? Every time I turn on the fan it makes a screeching noise because the a/c compressor is seized. The heat works fine but just no way to get it to blow

Are you sure your compressor is seized? I had something similar happen this summer and it ended up being a bad clutch on the ac unit. The rubber part that holds the clutch plate goes bad and will make a horrific howling/ squeal sound when the ac unit tries to engage.

If this sounds like something that is going on with your truck it’s a super easy fix, removing one bolt and putting a new clutch assembly on. Lots of threads on it here. Good luck OP.

For those of us who aren't overly confident in the electrical world (ie: me), any chance anyone have a pic where this relay may be?

there is a simple mod inside of the truck that allows you to turn on defrost without activating the AC.

that stated.... defroster works via pulling moisture out of the air via the AC, probably wont work well just by blowing air.

Before cars has ac, they had defrost, took for ever to get the coolant hot on cold days though. Now a days adding the ac helps it defrost faster.

Agreed, the system may not be as effective as it's supposed to, but until I can budget $2800 to repair my system it'll have to do. Just trying to avoid waking up the neighbors with the squeal first thing in the morning is what I'd like to do for now.

Gotcha. Yeah check out the defrost mod. On my 2012 it was cutting one wire and connecting it to another under the dash by the blower. 10 min worth of work and it allows me full control over when the AC turns on or not, regardless of the direction of airflow.
