Long Story Short: How many people have 6112 or TRD Pro Suspension and have had coils break?

Found that the Passenger side coil spring is broken after approx 48k miles of mostly on road use. I upgraded to the TRD PRO suspension at about 12k miles and has 60k on it now. Was wondering how many others had experienced this before i replace the springs(35-35150-AA) and potentially set myself up for the same failure, or go to a different shock/spring set up altogether

Looking at the coil that broke and the driver side, this may become a common problem with these springs, The bottom tang/end of the coil spring makes contact with the wrap immediately above the end even in full droop, which leads me to believe that section of the spring is bent every time the spring is compressed instead of moving as it should.

There is no weight on the front end, so it is not a case of overloading the front springs...

Maybe this is a rare occurrence and could have been a poor heat treat, but just want to check the experience of others before I replace.

No breakage. About 10,000 miles in 1 year on them.

looks like it could of been a few things.
    1. Hit a bump really hard which broke the spring.
    2. worn out from repeated road stress (bumps) and caused a fracture to eventual breakage.
    3. Manufacturers error, meaning that at sometime in the manufacturing process they unknowingly had a weak point that was just waiting to break at any time.

So much rust you cannot even see the branding, maybe the rust has something to do with the spring breaking.

Sorry for the rust, but you have that here in the north east with salt and humidity, even with fluidfilm. The rust did not contribute to the failure....

Did you just say rust doesnt contribute to metal failure? So Taco frames just wither away magically? Smartass comments aside, working at a toyota dealer for teo years so far i have seen atleast two of the pro coils break in that same spot. Guess they just suck, good news is they still make em!

No he did not say that. He said the rust did not contribute to the failure of his springs.

All he has in the picture is surface rust. It is nothing.

I noticed last week when rotating the tires on my wife's Sienna that the rear passenger coil is broken just like that. I'm going to let it go and keep an eye on it for a little while.

Rust may not have caused the break, but you have quite a bit of it on the broken surfaces (1st pic), so looks like its been working it way toward failure for awhile.

Just looking to see if others are experiencing similar failures(search turned up one other individual with the PRO suspension with a spring failure)

As previously noted, rust on the fracture site is surface rust only. In my area, bare steel left in the garage, let alone outside will have surface rust on it in 2-3 days if the conditions are right.

Snow tires came off in early march, undercarriage was washed and spring was not broken at that time

Is that actually the spring broke against itself? If so, that flat spring seat is a poor design or the end of the coil should be more tapered so you don't end up with that stress point.

Looking at the Driver's side, that is my thought exactly.... This picture is at full droop(truck is on the lift), and the end wrap of the coil spring is still in contact with the wrap of the spring above it.

    upload_2019-7-10_12-26-12.jpg

Looking at King's, they appear to have an extended transition to minimize that stress point

The spring seats on my Nitrocharger shocks have a raised bump to help take stress off that point as well.

That sure looks as if the perch has broken off,due to the rough end.
