Find a used engine from a decent salvage yard and call it a day. Many will offer a warranty. You won't be rebuilding the motor for $500, not with the damage it has suffered.

Factory cruise added, wood storage box in bed, wood center console/armrest, charcoal air filter delete.
I'd trust a used factory motor over a cheap rebuild any day. The Japan Engine place has bad reviews and an F with the BBB, I don't trust them. If the new motor is factory Toyota, which I seriously doubt, then that should be ok. Some wrecking yards will do the swap pretty cheap so you get to drive in and drive out with warrantee on the whole job, they also tow pretty cheap if you don't think it'll make it there on it's own. A buddy of mine got a junkyard motor for under $1500 with towing and installation a couple years ago.

$1500?! And they did everything? That's pretty good but I don't think I could get a deal like that but well see..
