Anyone have any idea why this water pump from yotashop would be scratched out like this? Kinda weird…

They buffed off somebody else's part number and resold it to you

    It's common

Dang what happened to yotashop being reliable. Ima return it and get one from Toyota instead.

    Yeah.
I wouldn't worry about it -- the pic of the Aisin one on RockAuto has the exact same thing done to it.

It just seems pretty sketchy to me. Why would a seller do that?

    Yeah.
It does seem odd, but they likely arrive like that from the seller. If it didn't come from a dealer and says Toyota on it, Toyota might take offense. Like I said, the pic on RockAuto is exactly the same, so Aisin may do that when they sell them to anyone but Toyota.

Person from yotashop emailed me back and said “Aisin has to grind the word Toyota off to be able to sell to the public”. I think ima just say fuck it and use that part I don’t feel like ordering another and dealing with a return

It will work fine. Use it.

I have bought many aftermarket Aisin parts. They work great, but they are always slightly different that OEM in some minor way.

I wouldn’t worry about it at all, most of the time I buy parts for my German cars from oe manufacturers they have grind marks where the bmw or vw logo was, highly likely they just had to grind off a toyota logo

What’s the silver coating on the crankshaft sensor? It seems to wear off when I touch it with my finger. I’m assuming it’s not too much of an issue since I haven’t gotten a code or anything and the part of the sensor that reads that gear is the tip of it right?

The base metal wears off when you rub it? You certain that you aren't rubbing off oil stain?

Could be that. This is what I’m referring to. It looked like the silver coating you see on the brand new ones, but maybe I’m just tripping…

You would know best. All that I can go off of is the photo, and that looks like just old burnt oil.

The sensing is done with the flat tip.

The sensor and the reluctor wheel operate on magnetism. It can have oil varnish on it and it won't affect it.

Basically there's a magnet inside the sensor tip and when the toothed reluctor wheel spins close to it it creates a sine-wave pattern that goes up the wire to the pcm.
