Can’t help you there. Never used any of those. Considering how you replaced everything with OEM I can’t see why you would do something different now. I do get that you want to get this thing back on the road. I had the same feeling after having my truck down for a long time.

Yeah it just sucks that tomorrow I could actually get some progress done but now can’t. If i find one that fits it shouldn’t be an issue theoretically. Are the Toyota o rings that much better made?

Don't do that...get the correct one. There are many different rubber compounds...some are compatible with oil and some aren't. They also won't be the correct size.

BTW...didn't read all 17 pages, but this all happened because someone had that balancer off before, and didn't line it up and slide it over the key before hammering the bolt down with an impact.

Anyone know what these o rings are for that came with my valve cover gaskets? On the packaging it says “4 oil control plug” and “4 oil pump inlet tube” I don’t really see where they fit. It also came with 12 of the grommets needed for the 6 long bolts in the middle of the covers.

Maybe the 12 grommets are for the fuel injectors? The OEM gasket kit has 12 for the fuel injectors but the upper and lower are slightly different in size. Hard to tell from yours since you are using aftermarket.

The grommets aren’t what I’m wondering about. They are for the long bolts that go through the middle of the valve covers next to the coils. The other o rings I believe are for the vvt and cam sensors I believe…

Not bad i think the key is to do dry runs to get the hang of it (without breaking an o ring like I did) and to put the cover on there dry right before you are ready to do it. Very carefully slip it off and pull it up without any sudden moves because that WILL move the oil pump. Lay it down carefully. Clean the surfaces one last time and then apply the sealant. Then be very slow and careful when picking it up and lowering it down. I put some on the bottom of my cover as well as the top of the oil pan to make sure I didn’t smear any off when putting the cover on. A small amount of vaseline helped a great deal with keep the o ring in place

Glad to hear. Sometimes taking sometime away is a good thing.

Yeah agreed. In a way breaking the o ring helped because it let me take a day off and plan my attack. Hopefully is all smooth sailing from here on out

    LOL, not like that.

Did you use that super special sealant?

Haha I’m kidding ofc. I’m excited as well. Yes I used all the Toyota sealants as specified in the fsm. I believe it was 1282b for around the water passages to the pump and 1207 for everything else. I made sure to add extra to where the head meets the block as well as where the cover meets the head before putting valve covers on

She’s all put together and running well. Idle was a little weird but I think it just has to reset and find itself since the battery was off. Took her for a spin and so far so good!
