I need a new door handle rod (not sure if that's what it's called) for the driver's side of my 1995 xtra cab, but cannot for the life of me find a replacement. I've found door lock rods, but not the rod that goes from the handle to the door latch. There are no tacomas to be found at the junkyard, so I'm getting a bit frustrated. Anyone have a part number for this or a possible source for one of these rods?

I had some annoying door handle problems, so I replaced the interior and exterior handles which fixed everything but the interior handle, which still wouldn't open the door. I found that the rod was a bit bent or just not getting enough tension, so I stupidly tried to bend it back into shape, which of course broke it entirely, so I'm now on the hunt for a new one. Any help very appreciated!

That doesn't look like it. Maybe because mine's a 95? It should be much longer than that and on the driver's side. I also really hope I won't have to buy a whole kit.

Thanks @THatt , those guys have exactly what I'm looking for, but they're selling for 100$, so I'm gonna have to think on it long and hard. Good to know they're out there.

Could the broken rod be welded?

@Parkvisitor I'd be interested in someone else's opinion, but I did try applying heat and it appears to be some weird brittle material that I'd be uncomfortable welding. The other alternative I was thinking of was just getting the correct gauge wire and just bending something together.

I don't know what you do for a living, but sad to say, you can spend $100 in time trying to find a part in a hurry... Ask me how I know :(

You could go to Lowe’s or home depot and buy some appropriate rod, bend and make a replacement yourself. Use passenger side door for reference and bend opposite.

You can also consider upgrading the plastic door handles with metal ones on Amazon while you're at it.

bend one yourself. Pliers go a long way

I did with nylon door straps as handles
