I just did a brake job on my 97 Tacoma and while I was removing a rusty caliper guide pin on passenger side caliper the eyelit snapped off, it had to of been cracked because with minimal pressure while pulling the pin it snapped clean off. I put it all together and drove it and seems fine. Is it a good idea to replace the caliper? Seems everything is solid enough, but unsure...

I put a new pin in, the issue is what the pin slides through on the caliper. That is broke

The caliper broke must have been a bad casting that your bad luck caused to break at this time.

The only thing that might happen is the pads could twist enough to cause the caliper to hang up.

This might happen with the pads in contact with the rotor or not.Might not be a problem you never know.

Losing the core for the caliper is a pain

Don't fart around trying to save a few bucks on your brakes.

Buy a rebuilt caliper from Pep Boys, O'Reilly, or Autozone. Install it.

Only then can you drive knowing that the brakes are 100%.

... are you saying the caliper itself broke where the pin goes through it? And you're driving around like that?

I'd just replace it, it's fairly cheap and quick job to put a new caliper on. Not worth the risk.

Not sure why the OP had to give this thought.

I would have had two new calipers ASAP.
