Who gives a crap if OP was gassing it! Is that not what most drivers do when stuck?? There is no excuse not to cover this under warranty. Winter is tough on shit. We slip and slide all the time, does this mean winter voids warranties now?!?

All we've seen are a few photos of a shattered differential housing, who knows what the full story or circumstances are?

Eh.. pretty sure my first instinct isn’t giving more gas once I start slipping. Especially on ice or snow. That’s not how traction works. It’s physics. The faster something is moving, the more likely it is to break when there is a sudden change in speed.

Blame Newton, not me. He’s the asshole that made the universe work this way.

In 4LO only the idiots do that.

And stupidity is tough on the wallet. A good way to learn some lessons, though.

The comment you quoted was not really for the OP. It was about whether or not someone should knowingly misrepresent what happened in order to get someone else to pay for their mistake. Nothing keyboard warrior for saying "I screwed up, I guess I should fix it."

My first comment in this thread was for the OP, but might have been a little harsh. 4LO being a torque multiplier and mixing it with Wide Open Throttle is a good mixture to get broken parts. Beat on your vehicle and you might break it.

That's one of the first lessons anyone should learn when they're getting into this hobby....If you're stuck or losing traction, do not go heavy on the throttle and spin the tires. That's a sure-fire way to break a CV at the very least, or grenade a diff. Spinning tires and sudden traction is a recipe for disaster.

Peoples ideas of “off-road” vary a bit.

    Some think this is off-roading...

LOL as you know - a stock Tacoma cannot do this. You have heavily modified vehicles obviously designed for this type of abuse. I am willing to bet you have broken some stuff and redesigned some stuff after breaking it, correct?

I kind of think there is a little cluse in the manual about abuse. I also think the front diff has been replaced once by Toyota they are not black with red sealant from the factory only the exchange units.

I have a feeling like others that there is more to this story than we know. I saw a guy up in Maine with a Range Rover, front locker and taller skinny tires ,and super duper Ashcroft many spline blah, blah axels. We were in a rocky stream bed, a few inches of water and we could hear him spinning tires and playing with the locker in low range..... ping..... and then ....ping.. both front axels snapped in succession. There was nowhere near this level of carnage though. I wonder what happened to the rest of the suspension? It looks like maybe he came down hard, or into contact with, something on that side to fracture that axel housing.

He came on, whined and then left. Don’t think anyone has heard from him again. Typical Toyota won’t fix my vehicle after I abused it, they suck, what can I do... then you never hear from them again and never get the actual full story. No.. I was only doing 10mph through a school zone and it just broke, I don’t know why but they won’t fix it...
