You the first owner of the truck? The reason I ask it looks like a Toyota exchange diff. The broken axle took out the case it's pretty hard to snap and axle but brute force and ignorance will do it every time.

Sort of, but the catch is the outer joint on an IFS CV axle is very similar to the Rzeppa-Birfield joint inside those knuckles on solid axle Toyotas. Put a tripod-tulip joint on the inside, slap a couple of boots around them both and you got yourself an IFS CV axle. I dunno about Jeeps but IFS Toyotas kind of do have Birfs.

Trade it in for a 2019! Sales monkey and trade assessor will never suspect it as long as it drives around their lot.

Too much cheap Chinese steel has made it's way into the U.S. supply chain. Sadly these trucks just don't hold up like they did 25 or 30 years ago. Bigger, overpriced and with more tech doesn't make them more durable.

A good example of Chinese steel quality issues leading to potential danger is the Oakland Bay Bridge in San Francisco, California. The lower quality of the foreign steel was discovered in 2013 when a seismic test led to the discovery of 32 faulty rods that had to be replaced; they had been corroding in a large pool of water. This is especially problematic since the bridge practically connects two major fault lines, one of which was the cause of the big earthquake in 1989. A metallurgist testified that the Chinese steel was poor quality, and prone to embrittlement, which is why the rods cracked; during construction 750 panels cracked during welding and had to be replaced.

There have been a large number of reports of Chinese steel quality issues. Between 2011 and 2012 eight bridges in China, using Chinese steel, collapsed.

Anyone shaming the OP for going to the dealer and pretending like they wouldn’t attempt the same is a damn liar.

I’m with @98tacoma27 (I think?). Replace, sell/trade. I’d wash my hands of that like a bad ex.

If I make a mistake and I understand I did, I own it. I've done it and paid for it. I understand not everyone thinks that way though.

Funny how someone advocating for lying is calling anyone who thinks different is a "damn liar."

I'm not going to read through 9 pages of :bananadead: but here's my $.02:

OP can make a comprehensive claim on his insurance - road hazard hidden by snow.

I'd probably leave out the WOT part :hattip:

You’re assuming OP knew he was going to grenade his front end by going WOT in 4LO on a potential slick to not slick surface. Everyone’s the smartest person in the room until they’re told they’re wrong.

I’m saying that if he legitimately didn’t know he was going to grenade his diff, there’s no reason not to take it in. Majority of vehicle owners otherwise would still attempt a warranty service. The microcosm of keyboard high and mighty warriors on TW doesn’t apply.

Either way, he’s gonna fix it himself now.

That’s why I said it after it was explained multiple times lol.

    Super valid point though!
