Well I got the recall for the leafs today so I called the local dealership. Told them I got the recall letter and they told me that there is no remedy yet. I said I understand that but I have a broken leaf. She said hold on a minute and went to explain it to someone else. She got back on the phone and told me they had no parts to fix it and there was nothing she could do for me. I told her so Toyota wants me to drive around with a broken leaf. She said I'm not telling you that but I have no parts to fix it and there is nothing I can do for you.

They should order the parts to fix it imho.
I would go in person or talk to someone else on the phone.

GM warrantied me two leaf packs for my 2010 silverado, just because they made noise. HA!

Arb front bumper, warn winch, All Pro rear bumper, OME up front, OME and All Pro Standard in Back, ARB locker, 34 x 10.5 KO2's, 17" Level 8 Trackers, and fancy single piece driveshaft.
Call the Toyota regional manager, or the national toyota care number. Hopefully you will get a better answer. A stock spring pack probably only costs them about $50, so they should be willing to fix it. If they had any sense...

Poor customer service aside, it isn't the dealerships responsibility to fix Toyota's mistakes. They're privately owned and have nothing to do with your leaf springs being broken, except to repair them as directed by Toyota (as they are an authorized dealer/repair facility) or to help you in good faith.

Good faith failed, so I'd call Toyota Corporate or send them an email and go to someone who actually has a liability in your situation, the dealer isn't that person IMO. Don't forget that the dealership and Toyota are two separate entities.

Im pretty sure when I read the recall letter that it states if you have a broken leaf spring then they will fix it. They dont' have a remedy to keep the unbroken leafs from breaking. This was my understanding

I haven't gotten the notice as I have a 2013, but from what I hear from those who've gotten it - the wording says they'll fix it, but they don't yet have a fix yet and will let you know when they do.

I know people have posted here before with broken leaf springs and gotten them replaced by contacting Toyota, and I think there's been a few who were told to GFY by Toyota also, but dealers had to get approval or denial from the mothership regardless. Definitely call Toyota.

I emailed Toyota Customer Care as soon as I got off the phone with the local dealership. Waiting on a reply.

I'd walk into the dealership and show them this portion of the letter and see what they say. You may have to keep moving upstairs but stay polite. At least they could do the TSB spring repair(s):

SU006-07 SEP 07 Suspension - Harsh Rear Spring Ride With Heavy Loads
T-SB-0359-10 DEC 10 - Suspension - *Updated* Rear Spring Harsh Ride

until they figure out how to handle the recall repair.

    Good luck,

    Ray

The replacement 4 leaf packs fall into the recall. My guess they are changing vendors or a complete redesign.
