My stick got really loose all the sudden a couple months ago. Something must've broken between the two parts--they're still stuck together, but the top tube swings around the bottom like it's on the wobbliest knuckle. Suffice it to say, it's always a guess finding gears these days. I went to the dealership and was told the stick isn't fixable and that a new one'll run me $300 just for the part. I've been looking for used parts online, but without any luck. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Pull it out and see what's broken. Depending on the part you ought to be able to either fix it yourself with the JB weld or replace certain parts with an aftermarket kit like URD marlin etc...

Just start with seeing what exactly is broken.

talk to a member on here named coupe. he sells a modified one. what happened is the rubber bushing that is there for noise/vibration dampening is very shitty and wears out. Coupe will shorten the shifter and put a epoxy of some type in there. makes it way more solid with just a slighty more transmission noise

Cheers. Coupe's solution is exactly what I need--didn't wanna spend $300 on a part that's just gonna break again (assuming Toyota isn't making it any differently than they did in 07).

    Lots baby!
I can fix it. I epoxy the two halves together with a polyurethane epoxy. I cut it down at the same time. The stock shifter is 11 1/2" . I offer this in a 9 1/2" version & 8 1/2" version. This works well with an URD SS. Price for this mod is $120 + your old shifter. I include a new white tip bushing and set screws for the URD SS.

I also do this mod to a TRD SS.

    hey Coupe,

I know this response is so long delayed you probably forgot all about it. Just wanted to let you know that I did the repair myself and it's absolutely amazing. I'm a self-employed carpenter up in Canada, so I need my truck every day and couldn't afford the down time it would've taken to send the stick to you. I suffered with the wobble till Christmas when I had enough time off to do the job myself, and your solution is awesome. I notice a little more noise with it, but that's a small price to pay for being able to find gears fast! If you're ever up in Ontario (or if I ever find myself in Texas), I owe you more than a couple beers.

    Cheers.

Ok, so I dug into why my shift lever just came loose completely and would not shift into/out of gear. Found that the conical spring was broken and the top cap was bent. Is this normal or

No, that is not normal at all. That is a sign of abusive shifting.
