I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma and tried changing my 02 sensor and broke one of the bolts off. The other bolts is tightened down and I don’t know if it is OK to just keep it this way or does it need to be repaired? I know the seal is probably not as good as it should be But the check engine light did go off and has not come back on. What are some of the concerns with this?

Given some driving things tend to vibrate loose .

Are you sure it was a bolt and not a stud usually they are studs .

If it broke off flush about the quickest fix is removing the old bung and welding in a new one installing new studs

Which one front or rear ?

If this is the rear, downstream?, it’s not too hard to fix. You can try some exhaust sealant to fill in the gap temporary. Another option is to go to a muffler shop. They should have a spare exhaust pipe with the o2 sensor port they can cut and weld on for you.

I kno the Bosch and Denso o2 sensors are threaded into the flange. If you can take it off the flange you may be able to spin the flange out of the way giving you access to the broken bolt. Toyota uses studs but being part of the exhaust, those studs and nuts easily break and/or strip. Just replace it with stainless steel and use antiseize.
