Broken seat bolt nut

so I was putting a powered sub in my truck under my driver seat a while ago. I found a way to snap the welded nut off the frame that holds the seat in place. Any ideas on how to fix it? I can't get to the other side of the hole to just run a nut and bolt through. I'm all out of ideas and it's really annoying me

they sell a tool for it. you can buy the from a Napa or a noble truck store

 

Drill through and put a longer bolt with a nut/washer from the bottom?

 

FWIW, I wouldn't use a nutsert for a seat bolt. They have limitations as far as what kind of weight you can put on them before they pull out. If you were in an accident, the seat could potentially tear out of the mount and cause you or a passenger further injury. If you put the call out to local members with the resources, it wouldn't be too hard to weld the nut back on. Probably wouldn't cost you anything either. Fix it like factory and be done with it.

So you're saying it's a captive nut between two panels, not visible from under the truck, right?

A centerpunch in the hole with a good rap should dimple the location so you can find it underneath.

 

Exactly. You can not see where the nut was welded. The center punch idea is genius. I'm gonna go pick up some grade 8 hardware after work and give it a go. I'm super tired of the squeak from the loose metal on metal. My seat shakes and squeaks every bump and turn

 

Nah. Just experience. Live long enough and break enough stuff that you DIY repair, you'll have lots of ideas too.

The trick is remembering them. My 'trigger' is asking myself a question. 'What would Dad have done?'
