broken speedo?

hey guys i need some help, about a year ago my speedometer and odemeter went out..not that big of deal considering i didnt have the money to fix it. but my trucks smog is in a month and i need it fixed.
so has anyone else ever had this happen, can you fix it yourself or is it a mechanics job? i went under there and couldnt even find the stupid thing so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

oh yea its a '97 in line 4 now on 32's

 

are you very mechanically inclined? if not, id take it to a shop and have them deal with it.

 

well it depends on what is but between me and my dad we defintaltely know some stuff about trucks. were gonna take a look when he gets home, but i was wondering what anyones experiance with this has been.
