While doing the Deckplate mod I noticed my hose was cut/rotted/broken. Have no idea since when its been running like that, the car didn't have the Check Engine light or anything.

After I finished doing the mod, I removed the broken piece from the intake and just stretched the current hose to the nipple (Plan or replacing this soon).

As soon as I started the car the check engine light came up and the engine is running rough.

Wondering if the Canister went bad since it was not connected to the intake and when I connected it picked up it was bad?

I finally found my OBDII scanner and will check what it's picking up. All symptoms point to a faulty "Canister Purge Solenoid", I just find it weird that it was picked up until after I connected it.

Let me know what you think! (Pardon the dirty intake/engine, its been raining like crazy lately).

    Thanks.

more than likely the charcoal canister has not been purged of the store vapors and your re-connection is now pulling more than normal... I would check the line for liquid too.

Not sure what the function of the canister is but yes, Logic tells me that dirt/vapor accumulated at the canister since there was no vacuum. After I reconnected it, it might be pulling all of it in.
In case that the canister hasn't been purged, should I replace it or can I clean it? I will be installing a new hose today.

The purpose of the evap system is to contain/filter/burn evaporative vapors from the fuel tank.

Your broken line is the "fresh, filtered air inlet" for the system, it is not a vacuum line in any way. The air in that line travels from the air box to the charcoal canister. The "vacuum" that drives or pulls the "fresh" air through the system is the line at the top/rear of the intake manifold just downstream from the throttle body.

The function of the system would be 100% unaffected if connected to the air box or not.
Not connected, could certainly allow water/debris to enter the system causing illness to the purge valve, check valve and/or the media itself. Best guess is this is the issue.

Thank you for the detailed response. New to this forum, also a proud new owner of a 2000 Toyota 4runner with the 3.4L engine. I bought it about 3 months ago and I have also had the 'vapor canister to air intake hose' broken since my purchase of the truck. I didn't even know what the hose was until I found this thread, I just knew i had a broken hose that didn't seem to affect anything. The nipple that connects to the air intake completely broken off and the hose has not been connected to anything since i have purchased it. It is connected to the vapor canister on one end and connected to nothing on the other end. Has never SEEMED to be an issue. I also just learned what the vapor canister is through this thread as well. Now that I think about it, after shutting off the vehicle, I can hear a little 'hissing' sound coming from the vapor canister. Is that because of the broken hose? Is that how it is supposed to operate?
