The only way to securely mount a bumper on the 3rd gen 4Runner is to cut the factory thin bumper/frame end plates off and build off of the frame or a new front crossmember. Not only is that the only way to hang a 200lb bumper/winch securely but its also the only way to gain any sort of better approach angle or ground clearance on the front of those rigs.

I think its just the picture angle, center section clearance is the same on all his bumpers they tie into the bottom cross brace between the frame. Should be able to see it in these pics.IMG_8406-X2.jpg 20160617_142900.jpg 20160520_152417.jpg

I didn't have an issue either, but it might be a 4Runner thing.

I think your right, in the pic from his last quote you can see the bumper goes half way down the tow hook.

It's not the picture angle and a 2nd Gen Tacoma frame is totally different. Not even close to being the same. Check out my old 2001 and the different mounting styles and clearance.

New Crossmember and no factory huge plates.

The 2nd Gen mounting is the best on the market, and what i run on my own truck. The above mounting issues only pertain to the 3rd Gen 4Runner.

Our bumpers STOP at the bottom crossmember, effectively giving us the best approach angle and clearance possible.

Either way, I love my Bruteforce Tacoma bumper because it's design has insane clearance, 3rd Gen 4Runner, not so much...

Just read the posts prior. Kind of worries me a little bit but will make the most of it. Loved your 3rd gen build.

Well I'm pretty sure that the 3rd gens and 1st gens are pretty similar. And I don't have any of that

    A few things
So 2 sets of large "washers" came with my hybrid. The odd shape ones go inside the frame where the supports attach, but where do the square ones go? I haven't started installing yet, and figured it may be obvious when I get to where I need hem, but thought I'd ask.

I've got a first Gen one. Just google "Bruteforce hybrid first gen bumper" and it should come up

Been looking at these because the design of these rear bumpers is great, and I definitely need a receiver for towing, with recovery point a bonus, but the latter is probably not a big deal because it has two other shackle hardpoints provided by this design.

Not going for HC, but standard, which I assume uses the same exact structure for the rear cross piece and receiver tube. My concern is similar to Crom's, I have only a 32 under the truck, but I'll need to move that back an inch to stay clear of the rear diff to accommodate offroad articulation.

Also like Crom, I'd like to improve departure angle in general a little bit and especially by getting rid of the OEM hitch.

    QUESTION:

Where in the hell is the hole for the receiver pin?!?!? Can someone take a pic for me? Typical SOP for me is pulling an on-road trailer to camp, then pulling the ball hitch mount and installing the shackle mount in the receiver. But it looks like it would be a huge PITA to even access the pin, especially with a spare under there, and especially if the tube is recessed even higher above that spare.

Anyone have pics of the receiver pin installed? Or can someone please take one for me?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and anyone get the weight of a standard bumper? It is not stated on the Bruteforce site, but I could always ask them. I've been pleasantly surprised to hear that quite a few aftermarket plate rear bumpers actually weight less than the OEM setup, which is another bonus. I imagine this is mostly from ditching the OEM hitch.

I'll see if I can grab a picture later but its behind the bumper where you'd expect it along the receiver tube. Its a little bit of a tight space but I was able to get my bolt receiver lock up there. Its definitely awkward if you're lazy like me and just try to reach around but not that difficult.

    Thanks, man!

Well shit, that looks like a "definitely laying down on my back on the Ridgerest" sort of task. And that cross tube angles back toward the end of the pin where the locking end is, too.

Is that with a spare under there, too? I'm guessing not.

    Blargh.

Really which I could get my hands on someone's locally
