Noticing none of the builds I put together on Toyota's website show the color matched rear bumper,

is toyota dropping options or pushing out incomplete builds lately?

I wonder if the chip shortage has something to do with what options are currently available?

Could be an issue with the website. If certain options aren't showing up try switching zip codes. Just press the icon on the top right corner

Could be due to chip shortages or other back ordered parts.

I’ve heard other manufacturers are sending vehicles out to dealerships with the promise of installing certain options at a later date when parts become available.

Try a different region/zip code. You will get different options/ pricing depending on where you are .

I don't know if I would trust Toyota's website right now. I just posted something about missing features the other day in the thread, "How long did you have to wait for your factory 2022 order/request/whatever it is called?"

One of the dealers I'm working with in California to find a 2022 Tacoma told me they received an email from Toyota stating a number of trucks will now be shipped without certain safety/tech features like Blind Spot Monitoring. I asked a few other dealers in CA, and none of them have received this email (yet?). I have no idea how many dealers and/or what states are going to be affected by this feature removal.

After nearly a year of waiting on several dealer waitlists for a specific TRD Offroad configuration in Lunar Rock (at MSRP), my name was finally called last week and I was given a VIN. However, the dealer followed up a day later to tell me my truck would be missing the BSM feature even though it has the Advanced Technology package. I assume this will also delete the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) functionality.

For reference, the truck I have reserved is a 2022 Tacoma Offroad 4x4, Double Cab + Short Bed with Advanced Tech, TRD Premium Package, and LED Headlights. The dealer is telling me the BSM feature has been deleted but the rest of the Advanced Tech and Premium Package will still be on the truck.

I will likely be passing on this truck if it's in fact missing BSM and RCTA.

I was told something similar by a dealer in April but he said they weren't going to offer the "Technology Package" (which should have BSM and RCTA included) going forward, so if you wanted those you would have to get "Advanced Technology Package" because that's all they'd be offering. I ended up finding an available allocation from another dealer in May which has Advanced Technology Package but looking back at the vspec and factory sticker it only says Advanced Technology Package—includes Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM), power, color-keyed outside rearview mirrors, and rear parking sonar (D-Cab only). Looking like unfortunately it may be the case that they're not included anymore. Sent a note to the dealer I have the allocation with and asking about it and waiting to see what he says back.

Please keep us posted on what your dealer says. Where are you located, for reference?

I also noticed the V-Spec and window sticker on 2022 Tacomas do not specifically list BSM and RCTA within the description of the Advanced Technology Package. However, I'm wondering if that has always been the case with all 2021 and 2022 trucks? I know BSM and RCTA are specifically listed within the description of the regular Technology Package.

The dealers I've talked to sound as puzzled as I am. Only one dealer I've talked to has confirmed they received an email from Toyota. That email states BSM and RCTA will be deleted possibly for the next couple months of production (or until the parts become available again).

    *Update*
I found a couple older V-Specs for both 2021 and 2022 Tacomas with Advanced Technology Package and can confirm BSM and RCTA were NOT listed anywhere within the V-spec.

Great idea! Wasn't hard to track one down on AutoTrader that was for sale (for a crazy price!). Original factory window sticker (link below) also doesn't call out BSM and RCTA for Advanced Technology Package.

I'm in Texas but buying from a dealer in Nebraska and my truck is currently in the Kansas City port waiting for delivery to the dealer. I'm not sure the specifics on when it was actually built because it already had a permanent VIN when I put the deposit on it in late May. The Monroney sticker for mine has a timestamp on when the file was created and it says 4/28/2022. Hoping it was early enough that it may still be there if they really are starting to remove it.

After messing with the "Build" option on Toyota.com I found that changing the zip changed the packages available significantly. When I look with the Nebraska dealer's zip the options I see different options available than with my Texas zip. From look through the "view all details" for these different options Advanced Tech doesn't get you BSM and RCTA, just parking sonar (which honestly is the one I'm probably most interested in) and multi-terrain monitor. All the options with the regular Tech package shows BSM, RTCA and Parking Sonar.

The options on my monroney and vspec align with the "Advanced Technology Package with options" so I don't think I'll be getting BSM and RCTA. The Tacoma brochure does show BSM and RCTA with Advanced Tech but I would bet that's outdated and doesn't reflect the changes due to chip shortages.

Interesting on the packages varying so much. If your Monroney has a timestamp of 4/28/22, there's a chance your truck might get BSM and RCTA.

The dealer I'm working with wrote me on 5/11/22 to inform me they just received the email from Toyota stating a select number of trucks in the recent allocation would have BSM deleted.

Then, the dealer followed up with me a month later (around June 10th) to say that the truck reserved for me would have BSM deleted, AND all other trucks allocated to them within the next 1-2+ months would have BSM deleted.

I've got my fingers crossed! I found this video from March showing one with Advanced Tech Package and he shows the BSM in the mirror. It definitely used to come with it and seems like we're right at the time it was being transitioned so it's pretty much a coin toss. Do you have a permanent VIN yet or is yours a future build still?

Thanks for posting the video. Definitely sounds like a coin toss for your truck. Unfortunately, mine doesn't have a permanent VIN yet, so I might be SOL :(

...Which is a huge bummer because the same dealer actually contacted me last month regarding a similar truck (Lunar Rock, TRD Offroad 4x4 with Advanced Tech, TRD Premium, LED Headlights). Per my request, the dealer added the Bed Light and TRD Skidplate options, which seemed to work without issue (the V-Spec updated immediately to show the two new options).

Then, 48 hours later without any notice, the V-spec updated to show a different truck - This time it showed a White TRD Offroad 4x4 with no extra packages or options, but it had the same temporary VIN. The dealer still doesn't know why that happened, but thinks Toyota may have "cancelled" that truck because they didn't have the parts available.

Shoot, yeah that doesn't sound good for yours. I was a little late to things and didn't get a deposit into the local dealer until mid April but they never had an allocation that matched what I was looking for (exactly what you listed above but with long bed) and they told me it would be 6 months or more to get it since all that was really rare. I saw people posting about getting new trucks coming in and most of the time they were saying they just got lucky and someone had backed out last minute or something like that so I decided to go that route and try to find one that was already built and available. So I wrote some code to guess permanent VINs and scan the factory stickers for the options I was looking for and would contact all those dealers manually. Found one available (out of state) in less than a week :).

I spoke with a different dealership today regarding the BSM and RCTA feature deletion.

This other dealer confirmed they have not received any communication from Toyota regarding missing features like BSM or RCTA. They are still expecting to receive Tacomas with these features.

However, the sales rep did share that many of their trucks are not getting particular accessories added at port because they are out of stock. As a result, the build sheets/Monroney labels are having to be updated at port to reflect the deleted accessories.

My dealer where I have the allocation got back to me and hadn't had any communication from Toyota but he didn't think BSM or RCTA would be included since it wasn't listed on Advanced Tech Package. I'm not sure I buy that based on all the other stuff we've found, I think he's trying to be really conservative with expectations since there's so much uncertainty around everything.

Interesting that they're having issues getting non-chip related accessories but since that's all stuff that should (I don't know this for sure but it's what I've gathered) be able to be added by a dealer (or even DIY) later I'd much rather have my truck without the running boards, bed mat, etc. and just add it later. I noticed that the vspec my dealer sent me originally changed from showing everything as Factory Installed to showing a split with some Factory Installed and some Port Installed. The cost of all weather floor liners and predator step tubes add up to the total they show for Port Installed and I'd gladly take my truck sooner without those and add them later!

I could care less about BSM, or Reverse sensors,

but I really wanted the color matched read bumper and not the standard chrome one that comes w/ out that package.

I think you should still get the color matched bumper because that would go with the parking sonar feature (I think) and that's always shown as included with Advanced Tech from what I can tell

Got some good news today! Dealer contacted me to let me know it was loaded on the trailer and being delivered to the dealer today. And got even better news when he sent me a couple pictures showing BSM included!

I'm seeing more available all over, maybe it was a one - two month thing? Still weird though, why not wait and slow production vs sacrifice on quality and expectations.

Toyota of today does not seem like toyota of yesteryear,
